Rise Festival - Saturday 8th July - Finsbury Park

Graham Coxon was awful...I did like DJ Dummy's scratching though towards the end of the Common set.

What aload of rubbish!! Didn't catch DJ Dummy.. but you can bet your bottom dollar he was shite.

Yeah, DJ Dummy's '1, 2, 3 - 3, 2, 1' was fucking superb

edit: Hollis, Coxon was bland, tired, 'let punk die' crap. DJ Dummy was genuinely jaw-dropping.

Ho! Ho! Clean your ears out, sunny jim!

I'm with Hollis on this, I thought Graham Coxon put on a good show myself!

I read somewhere, too late, that Solution Sounds (top London roots system,) had a bus they were playing from, but I never knew :( ... did anyone else catch them?

to be fair Chris we weren't in as good a spot as we were for Common Sense...

1....2.....3

True, but punk should have been left to die. Graham Coxon hasn't done anything new with it. Could have been any generic 'clinging on to the past' punk act.

Anyway, this isn't really the time to argue with double-hard punks like Hollis, apologies for the derail ;)

Were Killa Kela any good? Was meant to see them last year... still not got round to it.

Alright for about 10 minutes then I'm afraid my attention started to wander. :)

Didn't hear about that WoW. I did see a poster though advertising a Solution Sounds set at Fin Fest, which is in August I think. I caught most of Trojan's set at the dj bus between 4pm and 6pm, they were good as always despite having to contend with the wind making the needle jump all over the place.

Admittedly Coxon was plagued by the sound demons, but I just thought the constant guitar changing and then the song sounding exactly the same was a bit tiresome. And that's coming from a big fan.

DJ Dummy's mixing was just  talk about playing the crowd!

I just hope they bother to invest in a decent sound/mixing/amps next year so you can actually hear people when they're speaking.

I love Common, but to be hyper-critical he did just rehash the show he did back last year at Shepherds Bush.. even the DJ Dummy interlude was exactly the name.. the 1...2..3..... thing, the whole lot...

.. he did it better at Rise though to be fair... (and so he should if he's been doing it for the last 6 months! :D )

yeah there was some real sound problems at the start of Common and I was really thinking oh god this is gonna be awful.. but they sorted out a little way in and it sounded loads better.... :)

Thanks for reminding me!

There were posters outside the gate advertising a reggae thing on Sun 13 August.

So that's another day blocked out in the calendar...

Actually one of the problems with the rise festival was that it were abit too busy for my liking.. finfest has a more 'chilled' feel to it.

Solution Soudns were indeed djing from the top a a double decker bus that was covered in mayoral slogans, on a scrubby bit of park to the right ofthe main stage as you faced it. it was really weird. but the best part of the festival i thought... also there was a nice woman selling balloons there for 2.50 a double, who got confused or something when i asked for a single and gave it to me for a £1.

We developed a terrible balloon haggle by the end of the day... I think the balloon people started avoiding us as a result :D

you sure ruta?
Solution werent on the schedule - if you're thinking of the guys who were playing on the bus from about 4pm for an hour or 2, that was the Trojan "Sound System" - playing with Brother Culture and another guy whose name I've forgotten on the mic. Certainly didn't look like Soultions set (which ilooks kinda obvious as it has Solution in huge letters across the speaker boxes). Maybe they were on a t adifferent time, in which case I miised it?
Posters nearby were advertising Finfest with Solution Sound playing.
