RIP Rick Parfitt

There are a few musicians and bands who hold a special place for me because of my family's love of them in years gone by. Status Quo was one of those bands. My aunt was a huge, huge fan.

This year would be a total shitter if Phil Collins and Tina Turner were to go as well -- all my family music memories.

RIP Rick.

I really did have a school pal called Dave who liked the Quo. I can see him now doing the shoulder thing in double denim...

Sad.:(

rip have a early memory of them opening a little concert in 1985

I always like the tale from that day where they did their bit and then rather than get pissed in the green room or some central London sleb place they went back to the local in the village where one of them lived. Then had to dash back for the finale, massively the worse for wear. For those about to rock Mr Parfitt, we certainly salute you.

If I can say this on an rip thread, I loathe that song. But there's a bit 27 seconds in where he's getting the groove going and you've got 100,000 people moving perfectly in tune with the band. Must feel astonishing.

My favourite Quo track since I first heard it back in 1975 in my mate's bedroom at full volume.
Tonight I found out Rick was totalled on amphetamines when he wrote it. Probably as much as we were when we first played it! :D

we're putting on a "dead legends of 2016" night on in leeds in the 28th Dec. I was wondering if 2016 would claim another musical corpse before then. This now means i have to learn "down down" over the next couple of days. Having listened to it - its not as simple as you might think- and its a fucking great riff. Hope we can do it justice on the night.

RIP rick. Bloke rocker extraordinaire.

I was genuinely sad to hear this news yesterday :(
I've always been a fan, from pre-punk days, but also after I got into cooler shit like the Clash, I still loved Status Quo.

Francis Rossi had the better voice (IMO) but Rick Parfitt was superb on guitar ...

Sunshine Cab Company, the fine covers band we went to see in The Office (Swansea's main rock pub :) ) last night, did a Status Quo introduction of two songs (Deeper and Down and Caroline) as a heartfelt rocking tribute.

And that was before their lead singer (Bonnie Tyler's brother, true fact) came on to lead them into other old songs.

Also, the Quo were great at Glastonbury in 2009

Looks good. But didn't lemmy die in 2015?

Saw them support Queen at Wembley in '86 and was at the supposed last Quo gig in Liverpool on Friday but Rick had been replaced by someone from a tribute band. Was definitely their last gig then.
