Rock and roll legend Chuck Berry has died aged 90, police in US state of Missouri report.

The singer was found unresponsive at lunchtime on Saturday, St Charles County police said.

Berry's seven-decade career boasted a string of hits, including classics like Roll Over Beethoven and Johnny B Goode.

He received a lifetime achievement Grammy in 1984 and was among the first inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986.

RIP Chuck. What can you say about the biggest influence on the birth of rock and roll?

Of all the music in the history of the world, one of his songs was chosen to go on the Voyager Golden Disk and be among the 90 mins to represent the sound of our planet to the universe.

Also did time for taking a 14 year old girl across state lines and settled out of court with women who were suing him for making video of them going to the toilet in a restaurant he owned.

He was a real legend and a big influence on many musicians, especially Keith Richards.

I would've loved to have been at the gig in ''Hail! Hail! Rock n Roll'' where Keith Richards was playing lead guitar for him. What a band that was.

Also, Jimmy Page, Francis Rossi and Rick Parfit, Pete Townsend, Ted Nugent, Angus Young....the list of people that were influenced by him was
truly amazing. Some of the overnight commentaries also mention that his diction was very clear; he did not sound like a black guy so appealed
to teens accross the board. Was Johnny B Goode about a country boy or was it originally a coloured boy?
A musical genius who gave birth to rock and roll if a somewhat flawed character.

And me! I took my first lead spots armed only with a handful of Chuck Berry licks. They worked for everything I was interested in playing back then. :D

The solo at about 1:20 is still the first thing my fingers do when I'm idling on the guitar. I use bits of it all the time.
