RIP Bobby Robson, England, Newcastle and Ipswich manager

That's the one I meant!

Sorry Bob :(

Yeah that was class.

Mexico 86 was a disaster to start with - those games were proper dull. Then Beardsley worked his magic and take off....only to be upstaged by Marradonna.

Ipswich, Newcastle, wasn't he at Barcelona as well?

Ipswich FA cup winner - Roger Osbourne - 1-0. Bobby subbed Roger Osbourne after he scored the winner.

First game in charge at Newcastle, I think his team scored 9? against Sheffield Wednesday iirc? He was about 70!

He was manager in some charity match on the tv and his half time team talk was fucking genius. Ex pros were playing against some celebs...

"don't fall for some dancer" - utter quality, light hearted yet good advice.

Sir Bobs 1990 team is what got me into football in a big way

he was one of the few people in the game that is loved by EVERYONE!

he will be missed by all

Not exactly a shock but one of the true greats of the game and always seemed like a proper stand up(although easily confused:D ) bloke.

Never realised he had a succesful playing carear and a fair few england caps before today. Good stuff.

A true legend. I knew it was coming but this has me gutted.

My hero.

Took Ipswich Town from mediocrity to European greatness, he is a god here in Suffolk and the whole place is in mourning.

Scarves and flags are being laid at his statue and a book of rememberance has been placed at Portman Road, I shall be there this evening for the friendly and then a few of us will gather at this statue for a while.

I am in pieces, crying as I write this.

He's the one Ipswich person who you won't hear Norwich fans say a bad word about. He'll be sorely missed by all.

A legend and a gentleman as everyone agrees.

Still got treated abysmally by some, most notably Newcastle (who sacked him) and the tabloids (anyone remember the Sun's pre-1990 headline... "in the name of Allah... GO!".

Very sad news.

Gutted to hear this today, RIP Bobby :(

I've never had any interest in meeting any slebs, however I'd have loved to have had a chat with this man. Excellent manager and seemed a genuine gent with it.

As everyone says, what a true football legend, and a proper gent. Ipswich, PSV, Sporting Lisbon, Barca - won silverware with all them, and got England into semifinals and Newcastle in the top four (and look where they are now). LEGEND :(

Sure will mate! Am leaving in five minutes to stand at his statue, lay a shirt, go into the ground and sing his name all night.

I spent a night in Barca in the night of the NUFC Barca CL game ( rained off ) ,barcode clad & trawling backstreet locals bars until dawn - such was the respect that SBR had retained in the city , I dont think I had to buy a drink all night.

Im having a beer x 6 now and chewing over things . It was coming, we all know, but it does bring a tear to my eye thinking about him.

*miserable*

Sad news indeed, i am old enough to remember when sir bobby was one of the leagues youngest managers a great man R.I.P sir bobby:(
