Rihanna really was beaten up

I dont know anything about their relationship... but i know women are attracted to bad boys and get fucked over by them... and accept that as part of the deal. Not a perfect outcome but true.

What bollocks. I know "nice guys" that have beaten their partners, and "bad boys" that are perfect gents in a relationship. The idea that a woman should accept domestic violence as the price for going out with someone who's a bit "ruff" is offensive reductionist toss.

yeah, I had to have words with my daughter when she said "yeah, but rihanna's a nightmare though"

and a work mate's comment was "she's bajan, she'll be hard work"
That is so alarming. Confident, cherished and sorted young people coming out with stuff like that.

Just alarming.

it's distressing isn't it? she did say that it's not right for people to get beaten up, even if they are a nightmare. but that was her initial reaction :(

Profoundly depressing I'd call it :(

I have heard that teenage girls allegedly believe some women deserve to be beaten if they dis their men, but I thought it was media bollocks. Seems not.

That's upset me more than anything so far on this thread (which has displayed a huge degree of fuckwittedness from some)

Hardly news this, is it?

Violent male "star" that no-one's heard of beats up girlfriend. Friends of "star" bleat that he didn't mean it.

Let the process of the law be followed, and focus on more important things.

Totally agreed.

So many reader comments are defending Chris Brown and the majority seem to be young women who think he's cute.

What has also been disappointing is the deafening silence from young Hollywood. The few who have spoken up seem to have come down on the 'sometimes girls deserve it' side.

Ashanti ummed and ahhed when asked about it on a show. Why is beating a woman something you can afford to be equivocal about- to avoid offending fans?!

Remember Kenan and Kel? Kenan Thompson (the bigger one) is now a comedian on Saturday Night Live.

Commenting on the allegations that Brown attacked girlfriend Rihanna, Thompson said: "I don't know the whole story, but I know how women can get when you get a text message from another female so I'm just saying,, you have to learn that you can't put your hands on a female."

No, im not saying that. I dont think she deserves to get hit or that she should accept it.

Sadly a lot of men AND women think both.

Apparently she's taken him back and didnt want to press charges :( But California law doesnt need her consent to charge him.

Brown went to court last week, but hasnt yet entered a plea.

This document is whoa. Sorry for the size.

Its depressing Tanky. How do you even begin to explain his behaviour, or her decison to return to him to young people?

it is depressing :( and I can't begin to explain :(

self esteem is so low in a lot of the young women that I work with (not that first impressions would show you that), that they'll see a successful, beautiful young woman with everything going for her, putting up with the crap that they think they have to settle for because they're not worth better :(

This is so fucked. How can a beautiful young woman who has so much going for her, who isn't economically dependent on this guy and has a loving and supportive family (from what I can see) think it's okay to put up with this?

Maybe because she was taught that way.
Not saying it's right, and it is a bad example for young ones.

Maybe, she had a bad example shown to her, or no positive role models in her life.

Yes I know you're right but I just find it really sad. I'm hoping that beyonce (who seems like a sensible lady) will go and have a chat with her. I am assuming they know one another if Jay-Z was saying he was going to beat Chris Brown up.

One of the papers was reporting that they had even got married!
A young person of my acquaintance has informed me that the two are currently ensconced in a music studio recording together.
In case you didn't think this story could be more awful, though, read this:

The whole thing came together when they decided to reconcile shortly after the attack. Sources tell us music producer Polow Da Don convinced both Chris and Rihanna to get in the studio and record a love song stat, stressing that timing was important because the heightened emotions would translate powerfully into the music.
Just who is advising this girl?
