Rights of council sub-letting tenant

Even after two years absence you seemingly want to retain the tenancy. At what point would you decided enough is enough and you no longer require it as a safety net; 3, 6, 10 years hence?

It’s social housing, you’ve benefited from it now allow someone else the same privilege. Hand it back!

OK folks, it's sorted and you can stop wagging those fingers :D I was a naughty boy but now I feel righteous

You folks who have waited an age for council accommodation need to get your arses somewhere they do hard to-let-properties.

They arent any here any more, too much housing demand and when there were in another area I lived 5-6 years ago they were given to asylum seeking families who were being relocated out of Dover, London etc

You deserve all the hassle you get.

What hassle?
Yu have no idea how I feel about asylum seekers

would you like me to tell you or are you just going to spout bile at me without provocation?

Crikey theres some righteous twats on this thread!

It doesn't matter whether you have medical reasons or can't afford where you live you won't ever get a cheap social place to rent because all the homeless foreigners/immigrants flowing through our golden borders will get offered them before you.

Its not Spions fault, albeit rather crafty, its the fucking fact we have people running to this naive country to grab our free handouts year after year after year!

And no I'm not racist before any narrow minded people accuse me of that :p

Rant over.....and in regards to your situation, you have little or no rights unless you move back in and deny all knowledge of any sub-letting accusations your sub tenant accuses you of. Move in, move them out.

That's what I meant in my post earlier on. Once you are in, and you pay the rent up to date, as far as the council is concerned, the subletting never happened.

Then just sit tight and be fairly uncommunicative, they will probably get bored in the end of listening to someone like your dodgy tenant (who shouldn't have been living there in the first place) ranting on at them.

That's right - all the filthy foreigners are getting all our social housing before us decent British folk and that's why there's none left for any of us.

You said "filthy foreigners" and you said "decent British folk" not me,so what are you getting at? Or perhaps you should have read the last line of my previous post.

I was simply stating that our dire social housing situation is mostly (amongst other things) due to our uncontrolled borders and not just Spion!

Wankety wanker to you to! :p

Our dire social housing situation has very little to do with immigration. Its mostly to do with the selling off of social housing stock, the fact that no more is being built, extortionate rents, the scrapping of the fair rent act and the introduction of "market forces" and a shit welfare system. Also people hanging on to their council flats "just in case" doesn't help.

This is true. But to play devil's advocate: if you know that if you give up a council/HA place, you will almost certainly never get one ever again, you are probably more likely to not give it up, aren't you?

you want them to live on the 20th floor of a damp glasgow tower blocks? (strictly speaaking a wrong example, because it is now managed by a housing association, but you get my drift).

you're talking bollocks. what about building more housing? immigrants have to show they have indefinite leave to remain before being considered for housing. EU nationals have to prove habitual residence in this country first.

Tough really, that's life innit.

Things may have changed, but when I was in a council place and wanted to temporarily go elsewhere for work, I got PERMISSION to sublet for a trial work period (6 months) so I didn't have to risk losing the house if things didn't work out. Otherwise, I'd never have moved and taken the risk and they'd never have got the house back.

Just say to the council or the police that you went on holiday and got this person to feed your cat whilst you were away. say they seem to have moved in and are refusing to leave. Say you want the council or police to come round and forcibly remove her.

Of course they do. But hanging on to a council flat, just in case is out of order.

A friend who is very mentally ill has been yet again refused housing as they don't have enough and she needs to be worse before she gets higher priority. Meanwhile she lives in a hostel full of crack and smack using working girls and gets harrassed very night by their pimps and dealers.

Consequently my sympathy for the original poster is a bit limited.

before you blame the original poster, do realise that councils can be very hostile to mentally ill people, regardless of whether they have got flats available or not. the councils don't necessarily want the responsibility and being actually ill, it is difficult for them to fight back. councils can have flats available. a flat in my block has been empty for well over a year and they know about it, having done the necessary repairs:mad:
