brilliant! - where is it?

there is one in the big shopping centre opposite shinjuku station, atomic suplex will know where i mean, there's a few all over town... also get him to remember the area where mika took us with all the record shops and thrift stores, you might like that, unfortunately i have no memory for japanese names.

He means Tokyo hands. There is one at the north(ish) end of shibuya if you are going there. You might also like Mandarake in Shibuya, it's a nerdy comic book and video store but has loads of cool weird toys etc.

what was that area called where mika took us?

There are Tokyo Hands all over actually arent there. it is pretty worth going.

any idea where the cool record shops are now?

looking to pick up some cool sounds - all sorts really - jazz, soul, electro - weird shit that sounds like cats fighting, whatever`s going....

If you're looking for record stores and the like, I spent a few days with a friend in the neighbourhood of shimokitazawa (spelt Shimo-Kitazawa on the underground maps IIRC, out westwards on the Odakyu line) when I was in Tokyo about 18 months ago. It's a cool area with a lot of nice bars and live music venues. I wasn't looking to buy music when I was there but I seem to remember a lot of interesting record stores. Might be worth checking out if you have time.

I think the best thing to do would just be to check out any disk union. I'm not sure Koenji is off the beaten track though is it?

And where else can one purchase kaiju and kaijin in Tokyo? I'm talking everything from Bounty Hunter and Secret Base through to Marusan and Popy. I must know in order to plan my trip to Tokyo next year :D

I don't know what you are on about but I assume it is something manga or animieish, dolls? Mandarake stores are your best bet.

Do you mean Poppy toys? Yes they have plenty at Mandarake. Otherwise go to Akihabara walk down the main street and go in almost every shop you see. Oh and there is another really crazy shopping centre which sells everything from key rings to full cosplay outfits but I can't remember where it is. I think it might have also been Koenji (north exit). Not sure.
