Ridley Scott's American Gangster

Went to see this yesterday and really enjoyed it!

I agree that there was little character depth to most of the charcters other than Washington's character. I think his character had enough depth, as did Crow's character (altho I would have liked a little more explanation as to why turning in $1m is frowned upon, and what made him such a goody two shoes cop)

I was actually quite suprised when I got out the cinema and realised how long it had gone on for cos it didn't seem to drag at all.

And I am seriously considering growing a 70s style moustache! They were awsome!!!

Turning in the million quid was a bad move then, because most NY cops were bent, and demonstrating you weren't bent was a good way to get yourself in serious trouble.

I saw it on Thursday, and really enjoyed it.

No problems with the length at all. I'm not sure I could say that about any other film so long.

I thought it was really intelligently done - absolutely not the good vs. evil portrayal which would have been so easy.

It all had a very 'real' feel to it.

I enjoyed it, but it's not as good as The Godfather/II, Goodfellas or Scarface. Very few 'gangster' films are.

I'm currently reading the book it's based on: American Gangster and Other Tales of New York by Mark Jacobson. Only a few pages in, but it's excellent so far.
