Riding scooter when CBT has expired

what gets me is that someone who drives a car only need to do there cbt once and then can drive up to a125cc for years.yet us moped have to do it every two yrs it's a scam.
I took my CBT in November 2005, so it lasts until this November.

I've recently handed in my notice and don't have another job to go to. It costs about £100 to retake the CBT.

What are the consequences and chances of being caught out driving without it? I don't want to do this, it's just a theoretical question.

If I get another job, I will retake it, but if I don't it might be necessary, not to use it all the time, but at least to ride it across town to store it in a friend's garage.

It seems silly that I have to retake a basic skills test, when I clearly know what I am doing after 2 years on the road.

Wow, what a bump :D

Seems a tad extreme needing to complete a course of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy before riding a scooter.:D

It does become farcical when one has been riding for years. At at the time of ditching my bike a couple of years ago I had accumulated 10 years' experience of riding bikes of up to 125 cc. The flying fuck I should still have to display L plates and not be allowed to carry a pillion.

Cunts.

Tiny wheels on roads with honking great potholes? Psychotherapeutic intervention sounds entirely appropriate to me.

Get a 125 motorbike instead FFS!

You are correct, it IS a scam. I call it the compulsory bollocks tax :) You don't even need to do the CBT if you passed your car test before a certain date.

Erm... that's not true at all! I have a Car licence and CBT, the CBT still expires after 2 years (unless you stick to 50cc)

Aye you're right I think, but the poster mentioned mopeds and to me mopeds are 50cc, which I can ride to my hearts content on my full car licence without CBT :)

I was referring to the 125cc comment...

I don't think CBT is enough to get out on the road on it's own. Having more training is essential in my opinion, if you've got a car licence, you've had a fair bit more training.

I passed my car test in 1988. At the same time I was driving a 125 in L plates. Selling the bike to buy a car.
Now 2015. I once again bought a 125 sat my cbt. Witch helped refresh me. I am still happy with the engine size ( twin ).
I understand that I should resit on the grounds I haven't passed my test.
There should be a smaller resit fee
Or even a cheaper option after biking two years . So bikers wishing to in the 125 cc bracket shouldn't need to pay big prices.
Yes I have been told I can sit my test in a 125. But the only problem with that is I can't do it on my own bike and the only bikes most places use are over 500cc. So in reality there isn't any were for 125cc
There is plenty wrong with the UK rules on biking

Plus, if you have no licence you have no insurance. You can't take the risk that you hurt someone without the means to pay proper compensation - and you'd get banged up for it.

That someone still gets compensated under the Uninsured Drivers Agreement (which bumps up the premiums of every other driver).

Eight years and noone even answered the question. LC10, driving without a licence, 3-6 points, maximum £1000 fine, possible disqualification.

well that's annoying.
I have a license that says I can ride a scooter without a CBT. But I can't get insurance without one.

Have you got a car license and insurance?

I was covered by my car insurance for mopeds when I had both moped and car..... it may be worth asking.
