Rick Wright (pink floyd) dead

Sad sad news...as a long time Floyd fan I. like others I imagine, have always hoped for a proper reunion and even maybe a new album. Dashed forever those hopes are...:(

I should imagine there is some recent stuff recorded with Dave Gilmour and Nick Mason.

He was a nice bloke.

RIP Rick :(

I had the absolute pleasure of watching them in Earls Court on their Division bell tour. I was wankered on speed.

I wasn't living in London at the time. After the gig I was standing further forward from the entrance for reasons that escape me and suddenly a limo with shaded windows pulled round the corner from the back and stopped right next to me. I was the only person standing there. I stared at the glass and stepped forward and looked straight into Rick's eyes. As I recoiled back in half shock, half surprise, the limo slowly rolled away prior to joining the main road and sped away. I'll always remember that.

Great musician. RIP. x

Wish you were here.

Oh dear.:(

RIP Rick.

Staring at that gatefold & listening to Great Gig over & over on my late Grandad's beautiful valve stereo system, during an endless summer in 1984 will always stay with me.

Cheers for that one.

So sad to hear of Rick's death.

Loads of memories have flooded back - Wembley Stadium August 6th 1988, Docklands Arena the following year, Knebworth 1990 (Floyd stole the show), Division Bell at Earls Court in 1994 - great times.

Time to lower the lights, crack a bottle of wine, put on the headphones and immerse in Dark Side.

that is shit news. genuinely sad to hear this. he was a genius.

I will never know just how he sequenced that arp into Breathe.

Or how he did the voice-match stuff. Or the overdubbing.

Or the pure expression that made the likes of Stevie Wonder blush.

One of the most important synth players ever. RIP dude.

I've just played "Cirrus Minor" as a tribute to him. His playing on that is superb; he makes a few notes do the work of many in the way only great musicians can (the same with "Echoes").

poor old ipswich :(

No thats RICHARD Wright, our jug-eared goalkeeper! (I'm a tractor boy)

In all seriousness I'm upset by this, he was a great keyboard player and extremely inventive, Dark Side and Wish you Wer Here are prime examples, as is Animals.

RIP Rick.

Just listening to 'The Embryo' off the BBC album now. The keyboard playing on it's fantastic - some of the bits where he locks in with the guitar and just blasts it out. He was great.

RIP Rick.

co-incidentally, I bought his solo album just a couple of weeks ago. Saw it in a charity shop and thought hmm keyboard player with Pink Floyd, this might be quite good. Haven't got round to listening to it yet - will have to make that a priority.

Playing Pulse as I post.
LOUD.

A drink in his memory later?

I was at both of those gigs. :D ( Wembley and Docklands. )

Why do the rich and famous always die before I weasel my way into their affections and will?

RIP Rick, Floyd have given me some good, good evenings down the years. Mornings too.

You don't know anyone else who could play like that do you?

Brian Eno.

out of synth players he would struggle to make my top 100

This is an obituary not a crap/not crap thread.

I don't remember you in your previous infamous carnation as you didn't feature on my radar, but feel free to troll if you think this thread ought to be pissed on.

I am now listening to Wright's piano outro to 'San Tropez'. If that was the only thing he'd ever done it would still be worth a heartfelt salute. Goodbye sir :(
