I interviewed Richey in 1993, and he was polite, intelligent, considered, and a pleasure to talk to. I was expecting a load of vacuous soundbites, as that was the Manics' stock in trade around then, but he surprised me.

I interviewed Nicky a couple of years ago, and asked him if he'd like to apologise for the Stipe/AIDs quote. He agreed it was a stupid thing to have said.
