He went through a bad patch. He's funny again now, I assure you. Give the Herrin and Collings podcast a go.

I tried. It was just RH and AC sounding a bit smug, making purile jokes about 'bumming' and slagging off John Gaunt, which is the comedic equivalent of a 2 yard tap-in my granny could score.

Incidentally, Robert Ince is a funnier Richard Herring.

Maybe so but the one time that I've seen him live made for real car-crash standup.

It was at one of those late-night Edinburgh festival gigs where they get a bunch of comics to come in and showcase their show by doing a 15 or 20 minute section.

Robin Ince was the first one back after the interval and it was around 2am. It was pretty obvious from when he got on stage that he was very tired and emotional.

About ten minutes into his routine he was sunk by the classically crude, yet effective, heckle of "say something funny". He had nothing by way of reply and just sort of gave up on the joke that he was setting up and went on a long and rambling tangent that ended up with him insulting the crowd, I think if I recall correctly, for being Scottish.

A sort of weird atmosphere of unease then descended upon the place, marked by hecklers demanding that he vacate the stage, which got progressively more aggressive and fractious over the following thirty to forty minutes while Robin Ince pranced about telling the audience to fuck off in a variety of different ways.

Bit by bit some people decided to drift off until it all that was left was Robin Ince shouting obscenities on stage into the faces of a number of hardcore hecklers who were giving as good as they got from the edge.

It was one of the funniest things I saw that year at the festival. Quite a few times I thought it was going to kick off but looking back, for reasons I still can't quite fathom, the whole spectacle never really got beyond the verbally abusive stage.

i think they worked best together as in fist of fun/tmwrnj etc. 2 different characters so plenty of opportunity to bounce of each other.

plus i always like the curious orange, simon quinlag and rod hull

e2a: i still occasionally shake my fist at the sky and shout 'curse you god for making me this way' when it's appropriate

I once got the moon on a stick for my birthday.

Yeah, he reminds me of Punt and Dennis.

On Fist Of Fun they celebrated the mediocre, proclaiming themselves to be the most mediocre comedy double act in the world.... apart from Punt and Dennis. However, because they weren't even the best at being mediocre it therefore made them more mediocre, and so on to infinity. :D

I abstain from the poll because I just want them back together because they fit together so well. Having come across them first as a double act, watching them apart is a bit like Blackadder without Baldrick, or Ted without Dougal.

Me too - have you seen Herring's website? He's in no mind to play Baldrick or Dougal again, and I can't blame him.

Wish he would though... :)

Aw. Dylan definitely did one like that, but then I do remember someone else doing something very similar, but I can't for the life of me remember who.

So it was probably Herring. :)
You're not mind-mental!
