Rice question

Brown rice is yummy.

I find white rice (on it's own) bland and boring. Brown rice has flavour and texture.

I made some last night, didn't pay attention to detail when making it cos I was boiling veg and making curry sauce at the same time, came out fine

Stick about an inch of water to cover the rice and turn it down really low, mke sure it covered, then you can just fluff it up a bit without rinsing it when it's done.

with brown rice I tend to soak it over night because it always is a bit gritty and hard if I try to cook it like white rice.

Not basmati (I love the flavour and never use anything else)!

It's the texture of brown rice in particular, that makes me want to hurl.  :( Horrible!

Out of interest - and not a trick question - do the folks who find white rice tasteless cook rice by the absorption technique or by draining the rice? I find the latter tends to level out the flavours, I find it harder to work out if it's jasmine, basmati or long grain if it's been drained.

Personally I find brown rice a bit hard going for everyday use, a bit too meh. I quite like it, and wild rice even more, with creamy and rich sauces like stroganoff and so on. White rice is just much lighter and complementary for lighter, cleaner flavours imo.

Yeah basmati's nice. I love a mixture of basmati and wild rice.

I don't like the little bowls of sitcky white rice they serve in Japanese restaurants, always have to add lots of soy sauce and eat ginger at the same time :D

Maybe the texture reminds you of bugs? :p
