Revolutionary Islam

Not heard of it I'm afraid. I've not read Jason Burke's book either - although have seen some of his articles.
Milestones was some sort of call to jihad, laying out the 'intellectual' case for it, by an Egyptian academic / hardcore muslamic.

I hesitate to call it a 'revolutionary text' for obvious reasons, but that sort of thing.

On this topic though, has anyone ever read that 'Milestones' book? I remember reading about that in Jason Burke's excellent book on Al Qaeda, sounded quite influential for some.

I've had it for years but have yet to read beyond the first five pages tbh.

It's available online to read, enjoy! http://majalla.org/books/2005/qutb-nilestone.pdf

Edit: just read online apparently banned in UK, delete the link mods if needed.

Christ I'd never click on it anyway! I was just curious about the sociology of its influence, and the tussle of ideas alongside Arab nationalism and socialism.

The reasons aren't obvious at all.

It's impossible to understand today's world unless you've read Milestones. Not that I endorse it, but it's a must-read for sure.

Islam is the only transnational force capable of standing up the enslavement of nations. It is the only force capable of challenging the neo liberal new world order.

The left as a force is dead, if Che was alive to day, he would be promoting Progressive Socialist Islam.

It is impossible to forge a transnational revolutionary movement on a sectarian basis.

Having said that, the Islamic critique of usury is more relevant today than Marxist economics.

. What is not to like? Oh yeah, they are against music, dancing, fun.

That's the death knell of the Western Left right there.

God forbid anyone should take away their "music, dancing and fun." They'll fight to the death to defend "music, dancing and fun."

They seriously will.

Do you seriously consider Western capitalism more advanced?

I don't see what you are referring to as that wasn't what I was posting about. The OP posted an absurd video, with no explanation as to why it would be relevant, but I watched it anyway and saw that rather unfortunate juxtaposition and it made me laugh. If that is what the OP means by 'modern' then I'm afraid he has a different interpretation of the word to me.

Modern means to me being free to dress as you please, among many other things, and not to have to wear some stifling uniform which is what is depicted in that screenshot.

I really can't be arsed to get into a discussion about whether (or not) western capitalism is more advanced than 'Islamic socialism' as it is Sunday afternoon and I've got better things to do. :)

Basically a death cult; adherents to this unwholesome set of beliefs hold that our current life is an illusion and that true life only starts after death... if that death is achieved through 'martyrdom' (mass murder and suicide) all the better. They despise reason, hate women, homosexuality and demand that all non-believers convert or die. What is not to like? Oh yeah, they are against music, dancing, fun.

Without music, how do they know when the ice-cream van comes? Bonkers! You can count me out of the worldwide caliphate.

That's nice for them. Can I be allowed to enjoy non-Islamic art? No! Convert or die motherfucker!!
Quite why I should be tolerant of a creed that wants to kill me and mine is beyond me.

But surely you do not believe such opinions are typical?

For if you do I fear you are but a fool.
