Returning to work after maternity leave

Second interview was yesterday – and I got the job  It's at my previous employer, except on a different magazine. More interesting job, much better pay. Win! :D

I'm going to the nursery today to fill in the paperwork and will use them for two days a week, with the childminder doing the rest.

My stay-at-home honeymoon is nearly over :( But I'm looking forward to using my brain again ;)

Well done! We're thinking about this now. My employers are great with this kind of thing and I'm certain they'll let me come back to a week of no more than three days in the office (I've stuck with them rather than go for a payrise elsewhere because of this).

But just found out that the nearest nursery would be £800 a month for three days' childcare for an under-2  Luckily, gsv's brother is due to become a dad soon, and his cousin who lives not far away has just had a little boy, so I think we're going to try and see if we can look after one another's at least part of the time to save us all some money.

You could probably do a nanny share between you and split the cost too.

Yeah, my mum's suggested that. We may well look into it. I don't think any of us are earning enough to pay for a lot of nursery care (on top of the mortgages we all have to pay). We're all in that middle-income trap where we're not poor enough to be entitled to free childcare, but not rich enough to be able to pay for lots of childcare and all our bills.

I don't think nurseries are great places for the under-twos anyway tbh. A nanny share would probably cost around 10 quid an hour (so five each if two families) and a childminder maybe a bit less.

£800
Is there a thread I've missed? Or are you just in the planning stages, Cloo?
