Respect Party Forum launched

Thanks - we don't need to derail the thread with old IWCA election stuff, the point is no-one's contradicted my guess that they haven't contested any elections outside Oxford since the London Mayor in 2004....

Your 'guess'? The implication being what?

That 'implication' is that I don't know for sure, and therefore I have guessed. I don't have every local authority election result in the country - unfortunately there is nowhere this can be obtained freely. And as the IWCA website is selective about which election results have been posted on it, I can't be sure.

The statement is now on a very rudimentary website:

www.respectpartyforum.org

You can peruse the statement and ask to join the mailing list.

The National Secretary of Respect has expressed concern about the use of the name 'Respect' in the title, but it has been explained that this is to ensure that it is widely understood that this group is an integral part of Respect and only open to those who are members of and committed to building Respect. Such use of terminology is already commonplace in other labour movement organisations without problem, eg 'Campaign for Labour Party Democracy', 'Unison United Left' etc, where the name of the organisation appears in the title. The initial sponsors will be discussing the mode of operation of the Respect Party Forum with the officers' group of Respect.

The officers group discussed the use of the name and the National Secretary was in a minority of one (!) on objecting to the use of 'Respect' in the title - so the objection was withdrawn. The issue of how platforms should be organised within Respect is under active consideration.

The best place I know for bye election results is www.gwydir.demon.co.uk/byelections/

It might not give 100% of all the results. But it must get pretty close. They get their information from the Association of Liberal Democrat Councillors.

Got it in one. It's the ISG and whoever else they can scrape up. Good luck to them and all, but it's a total waste of time.

Some members in my branch seem to agree with their statement, so I wouldn't jump to any conclusions just yet.

The name of the grouping has been changed to "Respect Party Platform" - to reflect the terminology used by the SSP and to avoid confusion with the Respectforum.co.uk discussion board.
