Resident Spider

I was playing in the play ground at the end of last term when I noticed a boy had been facing the corner of a wall hardly moving for quite some time. I went over to see if he was ok and he said "shhh, he's eating the ants I feed him".

When I looked there were masses of tangled spiders webs in a hole in the wall.
The boy had been picking up ants and putting them on the web and waiting for the spider to come and take them, wrap them up and go and store them.

The two of us stood there doing this for about half an hour before the spider lost interest/ran out of room.

After I did thin that I might get in trouble as it might be considered inappropriate for a staff member to encourage a pupil to feed one creature to another but then thought, I don't care, it was cool that he was so interested and it was fun.

aww, she's a cutie, innit? does she have any children?

Why does the BBC always get spider stories wrong. Firstly camel spiders are not actually spiders. Secondly they are not in any way dangerous to humans, have no venom and prey on smaller prey.

However, this is Essex and there is a real chance that this is a new breed of spider developed through extensive cross breeding in an Essex lab. A large poisonous spider capable of surviving the Essex climate has been the goal of a local spider breeder. Late last year the arachnid nerd was found dead with unknown arachnid bites all over his person and a large tank was overturned....:)
