Hmmmm 'workable'. I have never understood the need for software like iTunes. Here is one HD. Here is another. I put files which are on one, onto another. Why does that need a mediator? Makes no sense. This is the main reason I am so skeptical about getting an Apple product.

iTunes is not about 'files' its about 'music'

it's a fundamental design philosophy on apple's part: folders and files are already an abstraction of the underlying data. the itunes database is abstracted further still. it makes things both simpler and more powerful. Simple: All my music is in itunes, I do not need to look elsewhere, I do not need to remember anything, the search box is instant. Powerful: Give me all 90s drum and bass that I have not listened to in the last month.
