removing poop from washable nappies

b-friend did the first load and it turns out that he did not boil, so am going to put this load onto a boil wash.

Am absolutely using liners, but his poo is like mango puree and they do not catch too much solid waste
Am a bit crap at folding nappies and it seems cruel to learn on him when he is so young and dislikes so avidly being tugged about. So am using mixture of biodegradable, non biodegrable and precut washable nappies. The precuts are wonderful, pricey though at five pounds each and whilst you can get them that will fit newborn to toddler they are quite bulky for a new born so i got those that will only last him for new born stage and then need to be replaced with nappies that will last longer. They are delicious to put on him, just like a disposable with little pieces of velcro. Also they do not leave elastic marks around his little legs.

You know i do not know that his weight made much difference to the actual birth. The birth was not so bad, it was the contractions, oh my god. But pain is something that we forget, or at least try to... It shocked me though that he was the size he was. I were expecting an eight pounder.

Am trying to get a jpeg up.

Baby is a boy. Name Joshua Dylan Doyle. Beautiful, very well behaved, perfect. Cries for milk, which I want him to. Likes human contact, dislikes sleeping in cot, and so sleeps with us, which is very bad because of risk enhancement.

Aww... congratulations.

My little son, one week old, also dislikes sleeping in his cot, so he's spent a fair while sleeping on my chest or between us in bed. I don't want him to get too used to it, but figure it's ok for the first week or so while he's so young and finds the sound of my heartbeat reassuring. My mum's telling me not to spoil him, but I need to sleep too and in these weeks of severe sleep deprivation I am going for the easy option. I'll get him in the cot soon.

Too right, my little one is 2 1/2 months now, and is happy in his cot, after 3 weeks of being with me and the other half.

the best is to come, when he starts smiling at you.

Oh and if you can avoid it, dont bottle feed, the poo is totally vile, and it stinks to high heaven.

 Be careful!
Heavy big people rolling over in their sleep are not what baby wants!!

I'm being very careful – and the moment I resume smoking or drinking, he's definitely in the cot, no matter how many attempts it takes to get him settled ;)

Both of mine slept in bed with me for the first 3 months or so, eldest went straight into a cot without any bother, youngest always starts out in the cot now but still sometimes ends up in bed with us (he's 11 months now). They're not tiny and needy for long so I don't really mind :)

Oh and I've managed never to roll over on him  it's amazing how you can be asleep and still remain conscious enough not to change position in a way that would endanger the baby.

My daughter slept with me for months on and off til she was about 1. then it was anytime she needed to. She would still want to up about the age of 11, every now and then, and it was cool, cos it was just me. And you never really go to deep sleep when you got your baby beside you - you can sleep, but you always are aware of them

When my daughter was born in St Lucia, the baby automatically goes into bed with you, even in the hospital - thats just the way things are done.

You don't hear of babies being crushed.

You say your using washable nappies..

these come in many forms now... and most of them recommend NOT washing above a 60 wash ;)

How we do it is :

Get nappy liner

remove and flush down toilet.

use toilet as a sluice to rinse of poop.

Soak in a bin.. If you use water with bicarb of soda, it reduces the odurs.. without effecting the wash.

After about two days.. put contents in washing machine... on 40 wash.. use a pre-wash if absolutly necessary.. then about once a month do a 60 wash.

LINE DRY

This will sort your stains out for you...

As for sleeping in same bed... Asha never slept a full night without spending a couple of hours in our bed, cos she would fall asleep attached.. as would mum!

i've got two newborns in nappies, 1 toddler still in nappies , and 1 who is part toilet trained, but still in nappies at night, and whenever he is out of the house for long periods of time. so there are alot of nappies to wash at chez feyr :D i use the sluice, napisan then hot wash methods , plus reusable liners. i also have some pull up pant style covers which are useful for the elder two when going out as they provide an extra layer of leak protection!

You cant 'spoil' a baby
It might not fit with some peoples idea of parenting but responding to what your baby needs and what works for you both isnt 'spoiling'

Congratulations!

I use Bamboozle shaped nappies. They are brilliant - you only need to wash them at 60 degrees. With the early poo I never even used liners - just stuck the nappies in a nappy bucket with a mesh bag inside (good for transfering to washing machine without mess) and didn't need to soak either. Now we have larger poos I just dunk the nappy in a bucket for a minute and the poo just falls off. Then I stick it in the other bucket with all the others, then wash when the bucket is full.

Mini LJo loves them and he has never once had nappy rash! Also I got fifty quid off the council for using them as well. I love 'em, me.
