Much of Israel is desert, so it's not suitable for any sort of use, and the tax burden on Israelis is about twice what it is in the UK, so Israeli real PPP is half the UK real PPP. Israel is roughly the size of Wales, and in terms of climate it enjoys the full spectrum of extremes, from snowcapped hills in the Golan Heights to the north to arid desert in the south bordering Egypt, Tel Aviv being roughly halfway down the coast.

Settlements in the desert work perfectly well - the town of Arad for example has grown expedentially in spite of it's remote location, surrounded by dry and lethal desert, I know it well personally because I worked there for a while building a sound stage.

I also helped build a few houses (though certainly not for settlers or within occupied Palestine) all over Israel, they cut corners and generally don't build them to anything like the safety standards we expect in the UK, which means the average property price is meaningless when so many properties are invariably judged on their own merit according to the quality of their construction and location.

House prices are fairly stable and affordable when compared to the UK, except those near the Trans-Israel highway which have leapt in value.

Worth noting is the extra incentive offered to the settlers to leave peacefully, they would have lost 30 percent of their agreed compensation if they'd put up a struggle - so only the 'principled' rich settlers would have dug their heels in.

Abandoning sections of Gaza is a meaningless effort however: when you consider the rate at which new settlements are being built by land thieves in the West Bank, the latest token withdrawals are merely a smokescreen...

The Negev receives 50-100 mm of rain annually.

In contrast, England/Wales have an average annual rainfall of 912 mm.

So, these are a few extremely important differences, which you seem oblivious to.

Nany Negev towns have very severe problems with unemployment and poverty. Agriculture is immensely difficult there, and only exists intensively in pockets.
