remakes that are better than the original

Rubbish. The Jackson version is definitive.

When it comes to King Kong I'll admit that I never much cared for the original, that I think the Jackson remake is great, but that I also have a soft spot for the 70's remake which for all its flaws has been unfairly trashed.

Unlike with the original, Kong and the girl establish a relationship that unlike with the 30's version made me care for both. Jessica Lange's performance as the sweet, dizzy porn starlet (a bit of information that gets cut for telly transmitions) is underrated and she's still my favourite blonde of the three films. Rick Baker's Kong suit was great for its time (even if much of the blue screen work and the much hyped life size Kong fell flat) and his performance really brought Kong to life, the satire on corporate greed work quite well and John Barry contributed one of his best scores. No masterpiece, but not nearly as bad as its often made out to be.

True story, I rent the ring for iguana, I've seen it and she hasn't. Nice and scary and we go to bed afterwards. Middle of the night I go to the bathroom. Now the flat we lived in at the time had one long windowless corridor between the bedroom and bathroom, I go in, do my business, and walk out and turn.

To find this;

Facing me. As in in my face. The wee bitch had combed her hair over her face and was standing literally inches from my face in a near pitch black corridor. Laugh? I nearly shat myself. Not helped by the fact that my scream had nearly deafened me and she was so busy laughing to herself she couldn't speak or bother to fix her hair so she just stood before me shaking in that creepy faceless ringu like manner for 20 seconds.

Bitch.

Best story EVER! Although if someone did that to me either they or I would be facing a manslaughter charge, depending on whether my heart gave in before I was able to freak out and batter them out of the way.

The Thomas Crowne Affair. Thought the Steve McQueen version was arse. Maybe I just didnt get it. Was it is a different story?

Not that the Pierce Brosnan one was fantastic... just *gripped* me more..

Quite a few classic films like The Maltese Falcon, His Girl Friday, The Magnificent Seven, The Sound of Music and A Star is Born were remakes.

Battlestar Galactica
Screw The Fly. This is the new gold standard for remakes.

Though I'll grant that the two really have very little in common...
