So, what end is that? Explain precisely, if you don't mind, with particular reference to how it would impact upon the lives of gay, bisexual and transgendered people and with what benefit to society at large.

I am white and straight

I am also not a homophobe or a racist, I'm proud of that too

don't see why thats hard to grasp

I couldn't disagree more. While our culture tends to prefer heterosexuality over homosexuality, the "family" part is conspicuously absent. Promiscuity, sexual consumerism and divorce are all accepted social norms. Meanwhile, settled families are viewed at best as "uncool" and at worst as breeding grounds for domestic violence and child abuse. Homosexualist culture has been the beneficiary of the heterosexual assault on family values.

Baffling man. But then I don't get the Proud To Be English thing either. OK I get that you take pride in who and what you are but not why you articulate it by relating yourself to certain labels, especially ones you are born to. Pride in what you do is undesrtandable to me, not pride in what you are by geography and genes

You're assuming, of course, that these are permanent identities rather than mutable behaviours.

With the possible exception of transgenderism, which sounds a fair bit more difficult to fix, if indeed it can be.

or being gay and proud!

but this is all in the genes too!

I fail to see the difference in being proud in being black, white, gay or straight. We should all take pride in who we are ( as long as its worth being proud of)

I just find it odd, to be proud of what amounts to no more than where you were born and what family it was.
I especially find it odd when said race are in a massive majority in the country you reside.
Pride, or bigging yourself up is usually done in response to being ignored or oppressed, to do it when that doesn't happen to you seems odd to me.

Also it's down to my upbringing in the 70s and 80s when anyone who espoused the view you have was generally a racist toe-rag. I'm not saying you're doing that, and are hopefully reclaiming that back, but it still reminds me of that.

the difference is that white people and straight people don't have a history of being oppressed. it's not been a level playing field.

There is, of course, the possibility that you might be the first human in recorded history to have a happy and satisfying lifelong relationship with a drawing, but I suspect the odds are rather against it.

well thats slightly different now isn't it? black pride and gay pride are as much about standing up to be counted amongst a society that has oppressed them for so many years. If you want to celebrate white pride or straight pride when our entire society is shaped around that anyway, then who am I to stop you?

But you'll have to claim the white pride label back from the racists first.
