Reduced service on 'thameslink' trains

I don't miss the commute I did for a few years between Bedford and London Bridge - what a killer.

It seems that whether its BR or Thameslink or whatever, the basic problems of underinvestment are still there - old trains, same old network, etc.

Ah but that is changing...new rolling stock, new Blackfriars to ease congestion through there, 12-car trains instead of 8. But it's the years of underinvestment that require it taking 3+ years to sort out

If you want staff to work on a particular day then make it part of their contract and pay them accordingly. If you don't, and expect staff to volunteer for overtime, especially when you are a cunt of an employer then expect to get shafted.

i think that seems to be the gist of it, yes.

First Group are being entirely shitty and disingenous - to post up better results every year but snivelling , oo now things are bad - are they fuck for them at least - they deserve a kicking, unfortunately the passenger (note that name, NOT "customer") is the one caught twixt boot and bollock

Luckily I have a variable arrival time regime, mainly cos I start work at home at around 6.30/7.00 covering the Asian punters, then toddle off to work as and when

Am i right in saying last trains arent to much of a problem??

Looks like i can still get a train from london to luton fairly late.

Or can i juts not read?

we used to live in Haywards Heath, and my kids were always disappointed when we had to get a FCC train, 'the horrible blue ones' as my son used to call them.

The green southern trains have worked out really well I reckon, though they had a few months of hiccups initially, 2004/5 was it - only time I ever had train cancelled due to a 'software error' :D

FCC were just as rubbish, possibly worse, when they were City Thameslink - late, overcrowed, slow, dirty, there was nothing good about them basically - the bit when they go from Croydon to Blackfriars via Tulse Hill used to be excruciating.

Wow, that must've been a while back - all the time I've lived in Tulse Hill and been using Thameslink/FCC there was only one Croydon/Brighton train that stopped between 7 and 9am; AFAIK all of the trains into Tulse come off the Wimbledon/Sutton loop.

That was before they got to dominate the link from Blackfriars to London Bridge, ie before the closure of Holdborn Viaduct, actually maybe for a little while after that. Used to be possible to get a train from Holborn direct to Blackheath, where I lived at the time.

A progress, fucking love it!!:mad::mad::mad:

Well allegdely they are running normally, tho train times have changed slightly. However since this new timetable my train has been late by 8 minutes exactly every day.

Useless shower of shits....split the franchise - make Bedford/Luton to Wimbledon a TFL OVerground route and do us all a favour!

Paul Burstow, MP for Sutton and Cheam has started an early day motion in parliament asking for the First Capital Connect franchise to be terminated due to their appalling service over the last three months and their refusal to employ enough drivers.

Write to your MP and ask him/her to support it.

it always staggers me they still manage to be late even when they changed the time table a few years back to give them head room to be late within the timetable!

so if you did get on a train that ran to time, it would sometimes just sit at a station for 5 minutes!

You'll see more of this in the next year. All the big 3 Train Operating Companies have done alright this year and have used the recession to either freeze wages or casualise grades by stealth. None of us want to strike, we loose money.

My lot are likely to "work to rule" this year simply because the railway runs on goodwill. We'll do our contracted hours and thats it. That didnt used to work before because managers would work the trains as guards. But where I work, theyve thinned out so many managers, there just not enough bodies to go around.

Oh yes and Lord Adonis wants to extend the next lot of railfranchises to 22 years.....ho hum.

They won't loose the franchise. Moir Lockheed has donated a shitload of cash to the Labour Party. They'd rather kill their firstborn than admit the state does it better, they were gonna renationalise the railways in scotland, then Brian (Stagecoach) Souter gave Alex Salmond a Million Quid.

Corrupt cunts the lot of em. Your MP is elected to serve big business not you!
