Redskins

You really don't know what you've got until you've lost it do you? I used a Redskins quote in another post and so i went off and had a bit of a search and found these.

I remember seeing them play at Reading Uni and they were fanastic, probably one of the best bands that i've ever seen, for music, for talent, for attitude and for spitting on the stage. Proper political music that challenged your thinking a bit. Their album Neither Washington Nor Moscow was a cracker but don't really know what happened to them after that. Anyone?

saw them a few times and thought they were ok .. inc. at county hall when they got attacked and at a 'marxism' which was frankly embarressing ( the patronising crowd! ) .. the one that always stuck in my mind was their version of '16 tons' .. shame about chris dean .. i suspect they got pissed off by the SWP .. we all did!

You can't help yourself can you?

8 - Are you still an active SWP member?

martin hewes 2003 "I have not been a SWP member for a number of years now. I still call myself a socialist but have lost contact with the party. In some respects this was a conscious decision because I got quite disillusioned with certain people in the organisation. However, this is a personal experience and I would always suggest to anyone who is serious about socialist politics to join the SWP because in reality there is no credible alternative."

so for and against!

btw saounds a bit sad as no contact for many years with chris dean

and there is a tribute album

This was a good read from a few weeks back, with some good quotes from people involved:

Surprised that a lot of my younger mates really don't like them, maybe you had to be there...

Good piece. Four discs though, that’s a lot of keepin’ on

They had a big following on tour and not just the expected student lefties. There was a group of 15 or so casuals from Ruislip or somewhere who used to turn up to a lot of their gigs in London.

Far better live than on record, there are a few live radio broadcasts around in which they also sound a lot better than the album. They had problems completing and mixing the album mainly due to their gigging schedule around the miners strike . Eventually, a mate of mine helped them bring in the same producer as the Untouchables. I used to know Chris and Martin ( lived next door to Chris for a while) and heard better versions than the tinny bright sound that the album turned up with.

I've got some photos of Chris somewhere or my son's mother has . I'll try and find them.

"But the sharpest words and music from Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Big Youth, Tapper Zukie & Co couldn't make up for the lack of a Socialist Party in Jamaica"

Ed Warburton straight to the key point there.

He was the first boyfriend I had that I actually properly liked. I was 18 when we went out for two weeks.....😆 then he dumped me 😭
Oh no! ☹️

I think he’d just followed Martin down to London when I knew him. Might only have been 17.

we had a flat with a couple of others, on Brixton Road.
