I can confirm all materials collected down in Somerset were sold on for recycling, bringing in revenue and also saving on costs in respect of tipping charges and the ever increasing landfill tax.
As far as I am aware the cost in terms of energy used in recycling the likes of paper, glass, tins etc. is substantially less than working with ‘virgin’ raw materials.
There’s the added advantage of reducing the amount going into landfill sites, which are filling up fast – the costs of opening up new sites will be very high.
I hope people are not getting comfortable with consuming as much/more wasteful stuff as before – as the message (if it is getting across) is based on the three R’s : Reduce, Reuse and only than Recycle.
