Recruitment Agenicies Bad Exps.

I've got the impression that (IT) recruitment agencies do a job that could be done with a decently designed database + web front-end. Kinda like an advanced version of JobServe.

Granted they are basically human text parsers, but I dont think its something that could be fully automated.

The fuckers should just be outlawed then that would force employees to go straight to the workforce rather than dealing with these middlemen
That'd be nice, although I'm not sure it'd be very practical these days. Recruitment consultants are pretty evil, but one (obscenely expensive) use they're put to is as bulk filters. Take the example of a small company, say 10 employees, looking to fill a role. They might get 500 applications for 1 job, they've got no "HR" department and the one unfortunate sole tasked with handling the recruitment may only be able to devote a couple of hours a day to it. In an ideal world, the company would advertise the role themselves - stating exactly what sort of skills/experience are required, and only a small bunch of perfectly matched candidates would actually apply. Strangely, this never happens.

That money would never go to the candidate, but its a nice thought. As an employer they provide a decent enough service, it costs a company a lot of time and money to have to handle their whole recruitment process themselves, the agencies provided a much wanted and needed service.

Not really. We have a budget of x amount for our section. If we have to pay y amount to get a decent candidate we then have to pay z amount to the recruiter. This leads to less money available for candidates and for employer support (like fancy computers + monitors).

And I've recruited people without going via agencies and its not taken a huge amount more time. (I found it better as it mean that we got a better selection of candidates, rather than having recruiters send us what they thought we wanted).

Fair enough, but that doesnt change the fact that is not the common experience.

Actually just noticed that EastEnder has illustrated the point perfectly.

I think a happy and agreeable comprimise would be to say they're a necessary evil, though being a deceitful and irritating schyster seems to be the only entry requirements for the role (aside form the "coming from Australia" or recently graduated with a Ba (Hons) in Nothing Of Any Remote Professional Value entry route).

Like people working in Insurance offices are, by and large just not good enough to work in Banking/Finance/Trading etc, they're not shite enough to work as an Estate Agent, though not sure if they should take comfort from that or not?

I would agree that they are a neccasary evil. Its a bit like dealing with estate agents. I had one the other day promising to get someone to ring me back when I think its highly unlikely he even asked my name
