Intoxica: serious vinyl, serious prices...:D

(-Debbie Echobelly: she plays in The Nuns nowadays, I think?)

Yep, I suppose I'd better do a list and work out what I want to keep (won't be many, space will be very limited).

Maybe I'll do that this afternoon.

It'll be collect btw, from East London. There's other stuff like books and glassware that I'm giving away too so might be worth a trip.

I don't suppose you are around during the daytime?

Sadly, cheap and secondhand shops are getting rather thin on the ground now... and it depends what sort of stuff are you wanting to buy too?? So much business now seems to have moved to the net - such as http://www.gemm.com, http://www.discogs.com or http://www.netsoundsmusic.com, and of course ebay. Ok, but not the same as being able to check the condition of the vinyl and sleeve, listening to it first. :(

There's still the ever trusty MVE's dotted about, but otherwise, a lot of places have closed over the last few years (Reckless, Beano's for example which used to be my regular haunts), and then you get the specialist dealers that seriously know the values of the tunes and price accordingly...!

Golden Grooves on Golden Lane, off Old Street is worth a visit.

Anyone still go to Haggle Vinyl on Essex Road?? I used to check that place out and prices weren't too bad, although you have to be prepared for the guy who runs it and his utter lack of customer service!!

one of the geezers i trade with's fatha has a restaurant in Old street so if its the same one i'd be surprised ya find owt in there as he'd have cleaned it out

i don't think records are dying at all, in fact many labels i ask to trade with only WANT vinyl. It's the shops themselves that are fucked because they can't pay the bills and the big distributors are so greedy, some charge £8 or £9 wholesale apparently - how is a shop gonna add their bit and sell it?

I still buy vinyl!

In the last month: ten brand new albums, and one second hand. All from shops, not online.

(-I'm not a vinyl purist though; it's whatever I happen to stumble across, regardless of format.)

:)

I bought three vinyl records today.

Rap it up (I had it on tape but I must have lost it) 80s rap comp.
Beach Boys Vol 1
Beach Boys Vol 2

Vinyl isn't dead and isn't likely to be for some time. Arguably it has never been easier to find that one 12" record that you always wanted and thought you would never own. Of course it isn't the same as sifting through boxes and crates but it sure is much easier, and once you find people and places that you trust (as regards the condition and grading accuracy) you may never look back.

And it sounds better too.

The List

Well, buying good, cheap old vinyl from a box might actually be disappearing, as everyone now is mostly aware that at least a couple of dad's old records that are taking space in the attic or the stuff left in the parents' house might be worth something.

Just last weekend I've bought The Return of The Durutti Column (spanish edition, sadly) and In Visible Silence by Art of Noise for around 19 quid. Also bought a cheap The XX 7-inch single, and added a bunch of other vinyl records to my future shopping list. I don't have my list right here, but I'd say that since I've bought a cheap turntable, 80% of the stuff I've bought was vinyl.

I wonder if we shouldn't have a "newest music purchases" thread around here.

Love that album. Always wanted the Sandpaper sleeve when I was young!

I've really been getting back into Factory-stablemates Section 25 and A Certain Ratio lately. :)

Yep, no worries. We're just not going to have the space for everything so you're very welcome. It'll have to be collect though, you OK with that? I'm still just round the corner from the Prospect of Whitby where we met you, shells and krs that time.

Could I be a bit cheeky and ask for just this one single? :o:)

I'd be more than happy to send you a pre-stamped cardboard envelope; all you'd need to do would be to bung the single in, and post it.

(-If just one single is too much hassle though, then I understand.)

*flutters eyelids, etc* :o:D

Actually, I might be able to collect it on Saturday, if that's an easier option for you? :)
