    had to be done...

the last album i bought on the strength of a 5 star review was house of love - house of love, end of the 80s. the rock press had gone into seisures over that record and what with no internet there was no way to check before buying. really shit record. i think there was one track that was alright, but the rest.... never trusted a music review since

I bought Pale Green Ghosts by John Grant on a whim in a record shop - old school.

    Johnny Vodka The Abominable Scotsman

Most records people rave about these days are shit - 3 or 4 good tracks if you're lucky and a load of filler.

Shellac - 1000 hurts. You can tell this is an album made by a producer, lots of interesting noises but not a tune in sight. Puts me in mind of a tin bucket full of light bulbs falling down an infinitely long flight of stairs while a bloke who really doesn't want to be there, or anywhere else by the sounds of it, talks about nothing in particular. Music for people who have no use for music besides annoying their mum and dad.

Never made it through a whole Burial track. And this stuff is supposedly the pinnacle of the genre.

I guess the highest turd on a pile of turds is still a turd.

I normally slag off neutral milk hotel when this thread comes up, but it turns out there's at least a couple of good songs on that aeroplane over the sea album. I'd say Screamadelica, but it's a bit obvious.

trout mask replica is great though. fucking idiots.

    like hard work

theres tracks i like on all the albums, and some albums i can let play more than others, but thats a particularly tricky one as i remember it

dont quote me on this but IIRC its probably that most inaccessible of all their albums

    :D
tbh ive never really listened to tape packs from raves - its never the same - plus rave mcs work in the setting but not so much on tape - best sets were from the radio or studio i reckon
