Recommendations for Bangkok Hotels

The irony is that the Atlanta's a shithole. Good food (but where is that difficult to find in Thailand?), a nice pool (again not difficult to find), and a grand entrance hall, but crumbling, shabby rooms. It's also not in a particularly nice soi. All those signs all over the place telling you how lucky you are to be staying there are a bit too much.

Suk 11 is the best budget place in Sukhumvit by quite a long way. It's not *really* backpacker/budget territory, so it's either going to be either by the hour or luxury so your options are somewhat limited. (Although moving up towards Siam, with the aforementioned Wendy House, Reno ... and the others down that Soi might be worth looking at.) Thonglor is probably worth checking out as well for more intermediate lodgings if you're set against Khao San.

Travelfish is one of the better review sites.

I might well end up having to go to KSR as it turns out all the other options I had (Howard Square, Bangkok City Suite etc. aren't that central) :(

Come on, it's not that bad!. I like it in small doses. Anyway, what you can do is stay nearby, closer to Chao the Phraya river, in West Banglamphu, which despite its proximity to KSR is much quieter (and of course, handy for the river buses). I can recommend this place. It's just opposite Wat Chana Songkhram, down a little alley next to the 7-Eleven. It's clean, quiet, surprisingly well appointed, with friendly staff.

After having to dump all my favourites for not being central, I had actually come up with that one myself last night after another mention on Lonely Planet, so will be looking into that.

I think it was the balcony that swung it for me (although knowing our luck, the place will be full!)

If you head towards the river there's a few low-key bars, mainly patronised by Thais, that are mellow and friendly with live music. Totally different scene to KSR.

PS: Can you tell me what facilities are available etc. as their website is under construction so details are not available

Cheers

 Works okay for me: http://www.lamphuhouse.com/

It's a newly built lowrise buliding in a modern Thai style. Good food throughout the day, but not the evening (loads of places nearby), big lounge area, cheap internet access, secure storage room, staff onsite 24 hrs. Best rooms are A/C on the front with balcony.

It's neccessary to book as it's really popular. I booked through the website with no problems.

yes, I can see the prices and the rooms but the facilities bit is under construction so I was wondering if you could tell me what they have there besides rooms which you have done now anyway. Many thanks

Do the rooms have safes or is that a reception job?

PS: How far in advance did you book? I've not really got an idea when we'll be there and is the "private bathroom" a bath or a shower? This will be the end of our trip so to finish off with a bath would be nice but not the be all and end all!
