recommend some good new punk rock

Hey Trev, have you listened to much US hardcore? There's lots of good stuff there if you're looking for something new (well, old) to listen to. You should download the Black Flag, The Germs and Minor Threat discographies for starters as well as The Dead Kennedys and Husker Du.

Heard The Shocks from Berlin? Great live '77 style band.
Click the info tab for downloads:

I've got the LP, it's ok but not quite classic, i struggle with bands who sing in their own language cos many sound alike and i like to hear what they're singing...

mind you when they DO sing in English some of the translations are frightening - take The Ruckers from Germany - great music but the chorus of one song goes -

"Ruckers - knuckle shuffle!!"

someone obviously is having a laugh

I liked Black Flag but after "Damaged" they were boring. DK's were great until after the 1st LP, Germs were totally overrated, Husker Du had some good songs, never liked Minor Threat at all..."just a noise" as Alan would say

On the whole i thought USHC wasn't a patch on the original punk explosion

Punk is now such a staid genre term i very much doubt you'd find any bands who consider themselves 'punk' either exciting or original.

where-as if you like the more dirgey rudimentary peni/amebix/fallout you might like some of the more 'rock' stuff Ramleh do ('say fuck' etc) or even Brainbombs or BodyChoke.

or if you liked the more intense, rather than boring thrashy, antisect stuff you'd probably like Bardot Pond. (check out 'Endurance' for total brainmelting heaviness)

Both of whom have been around for decades but as they are not 'punk' bands you may not have ever come across them.

:)

Probably none of these - i like anthems!!

thanks to you all for the links but i guess i'll have to try later cos it's refusing to boot up ANY of em....i'm surprised how many Urbaners are in bands though!!

one thing i did notice though is most of the bands linked look like students and in todays narrow minded music scene, what passes for punk, i can usually know what they sound like before i hear em, ie a harder version of Less Than jake with metal mosh bits...

The King Blues

Can't get away with the trendy kind of punk that copies later Leatherface i'm afraid...
You me...are ok i guess

don't worry, i'm sure oi polloi will be releasing another 'greatest hits' LP soon :D

Strange band, they keep threatening to be great but most LPs are boring shout shout metal crap. "Mind Yer Bollocks" is great but rest of ep forgettable, for example

i love that "chumbawamba - you're shit" song they did on the last album that sounds a bit like Peni's "rotten to the core".

then the 'metal' influence crept into punk that was the end of it as far as i was concerned.

still loads of fucking brilliant stuff available for download if you trawl the net though - six minute war, fallout, the rondos, snipers, part one, eratics, sinyx, verbal warning, early apostles, early ex...........

stuff like that is what punk is about to me. no rock & roll or metal sounding shite.
