That's the finest reggae compilation ever, created by Dave Hendley, who has possibly the best ear for reggae in the UK. Seriously, I've been collecting reggae for over 20 years and I still play it all the time and have collected most of the original 45s from it.

You could also check some of my mixes on the Urban DJ mixes sticky at the top of the page.

I keep listening to one particular Gregory Isaacs track atm. Hail Artical Don. God knows what it means.

I keep listening to one particular Gregory Isaacs track atm. Hail Artical Don. God knows what it means.

Hail - Like the Roman "Hail Caesar"

Artical = Heartical - Rasta word for behaving in a good and proper way with love in your heart.

Don - Ghetto area overlord, same as a Mafia Don, and nothing like an Oxford Don.

An excellent set of typically contradictory terms which suggest that Gregory is the respected leader, a clean hearted, humble Rasta, but he also runs the place so don't mess with him.

Almost exactly how he is in real life, from what I've heard.

i really like reggae but my knowledge of it is severely lacking (bordering on non-existant), have acquired a fair few mixes on my comp over the years but have lost most of them and a lot of them aren't really what i like- the problem is i don't really know what i do like

been listening to this mix a lot lately: http://www.spannered.org/radio/1272/

and this one too http://www.spannered.org/radio/1224/ which seems like the kind of dub type stuff i like, like you hear a lot at carnival etc (ie not just boring plinky plonky noises)

erm yeah, if anyone can point me in the right direction i'd be most obliged! :)

if you want 'modern reggae' (which i know very little about) mister Jeff introduced me to Rhythm and Sound  they're tops, i love their sound. it's like a mix of new and old. here's a clip of them doing their thing. dunno where they're from - somewhere in Europe i reckon.
