the Casshern movie is based on an old anime so it's probably lost a lot in the convertion to a short movie

But you haven't seen it?

WHOA! I thought you've seen everything!!! Heh.

Hmmm.

Along with contemporary films Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, Immortel: Ad Vitam, and Sin City, it was among the first feature-length live action movies to be shot on a "digital backlot," with the actors performing in front a greenscreen and all but the simplest stage elements added digitally after the fact.

What to do? What to do?

i'm seriously thinking about Casshern - i'm just worried that i'll end up hating it. Zombies and stuff are cool - but they need to be counterbalanced with other stuff. Like a film can have no zombies / mecha / end of the world stuff in it - but still be really cool. And vice versa.

It is a very cool film but its not an action film. While zillions of robots get bashed to bits thats only a little part of the plot. Most of its coolness rests on the set piece scenes and its interesting twist...

Damnit. Wish you hadnt told me there's a twist. Twists are always better when you don't know they're coming....

Anyway. I think you have convinced me. Maybe.

No more spoilers please.

i've just seen a hell of a lot of anime

and Casshern ain't anime

also most of the anime your talking about on here is kinda cyber punk dystopia anime with mecha which is not my favorite sort

if you started a thread talking about slightly ecchi comedies then i'd definatly be your man

in this case all i can saw is that if you want move stuff like Eva try other gainax stuff involving mecha/robo (but not their ecchi stuff)

as a tribute to your cause i'm watching the evangelion parody dub during my lunch hour

it explaince why prince caused the end of the world

Thats the last time i take the advice of someone off Urban75.

Casshern is shit. Really shit.

Its like an overlong Matrix sequel.

0/10

*sigh!*

I know, I KNOW! Vampire hunter D is worth a look - Doesn't have mecha, but it does have a distopian future with evil vampires and demon things and lots of cool weapons and vehicles and stuff! And, of course, it has D who'd put Blade's arse through his face before he could even speak. I think distopian samurai vampire western with demons would just about describe the genre. And it doesn't have alien rape, which is something of a relief.

Casshern is actualy a really old anime that has been turned into a live action film. It's a total shit film by the way so avoid like the plague.

The late night channel 4 thing was cyber city odeo 808.

couple of my faves are Tamala 2010 and Mindgame (some shooting up the bum in that, and according to the back it's going to be turned into a live action film by joel silver)

As shippou says FLCL is the greatest anime ever!

A rare look inside Suplex mansions

I promise vampire hunter D won't dissapoint...

GITS SAC (ghost in the shell series) is worth a look, not always particularly violent though. GITS 2 is also good (if very confusing the first time you watch it) - it has the fact SilentNate doesn't like it to reccomend it.

Nice yard suplex...

damn thats a cool pic of haruhara

it's rather hard to give people recomendations as most shows are rather radically diffrent

but goin on "Me and my mate have recently been working our way through a five-disc set of Evangelion- which starts off slow but then gets fucking wicked... Like really cool. Good character interaction and that. Want something more thats kinda like that."

definatly go for FLCL it really is another excelent show and it really shows off some of the skill gainax have at making the art change for the story

casshern (the film) is alright it wasnt worth paying full price for though

It's total shite, I got it as an impulse buy while browsing in Japan, shiny three disk set caught my eye.

Wish I had actually poked out my eyes before hand.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Doesn't look like my thing.

I'm not sure I'm in the market for new anime anymore, it's all quite dull these days. The only recent stuff I've liked was Gainax stuff.

Some of the stuff I've randomly caught on TV in Japan has always been interesting. It's the odd subject matter of some cartoons (that will never make it over here) that I find quite intriguing.

If it's not strictly anime you are after I recommend

Ski jumping pairs - interesting just for the fact this was japans number one selling dvd for both volumes. Madness.
Oh mikey - TV comedy acted by shop window dummies. Madness
vermilion pleasure night - Madness!!!
any miike takashi movie - All good
swing girls - funny film, I like it.
