Recommend me some comic books

i like the first few volumes of cerebus, although he does go a little off the rails as the series progresses... but cerebus, high society and church & state I & II are all worth a read.

Totally and utterly agree. They're the best of the lot for sure.

from hell is worth the extra cash btw EG - it's a substantial tome, and will keep you going much longer than most comic books...

It is absolutely amazing and worth every penny.

<waits for Orang Utan to turn up and say that Alan Moore can't write>

I think you'd really like Blankets, leccy; it's emo as fuck but in a good way ;) I may have shed a tear while reading it :hmm:

Promethea and Top Ten are two brilliant Alan Moore projects - I love, love, love Promethea, mind-bending, interesting and fun, with gorgeous artwork. Top Ten is just pure fun :D

alan moore is ace... my mate rob used to have him pop round the house all the time when he was a kid, and apparently he created a couple of superhero characters for him...

I've been toying with the idea of buying Watchmen
Do that. I've bought it after seeing the previews of the movie, and finding the characters more interesting than your average super heroes. Plus, it should be less than £10 on Amazon.

Hello. I used to love reading comics, and I loved Tintin and Asterix books and still love comic-type art, so I'd like to get into them properly.

Any recommendations? I'm not really a fan of sci-fi stuff tbh.
Still with European stuff, I'd reccomend the Franquin and Fournier Spirou books, the late 60's/70's stuff.

Jason Lutes Berlin series is great, first two volumes out already - Berlin - City of Smoke and Berlin - City of Stone. Starts in 1928. Main characters are a female artist and a male journalist. Black and white drawings.

Also Chester Brown is great for autobiographical comics, check out I Never Liked You, The Playboy and The Little Man (Short Stories). Another vote for From Hell and Maus and Persopolis.

I'm also massively into French and Belgian comic artists, but their stuff is really hard to get hold of in English. I recommend - Yslaire - From Cloud 99. Loisel's Peter Pan series is beautiful. Franquin is great, and was mentioned here before.

For a real American classic, beautifully drawn, Little Nemo by Winsor McCay about a boy whose dreams take him to a magic land.

Joe Sacco's Palestine is good too.

Thank you everyone!! I just ordered From Hell, as so many of you recommended it and said it was worth the extra money.

I will refer back to this thread when I've finished it though.

Fuck I did all of freak anglel last night in about 3 hours (another hour spent going back and looking at some of the cooler artwork)

need moar

oh: old school classic with a female lead who isn't the normal 'big boob kickass' comic book stereotype:

The Ballad of Halo Jones.

Stone cold classic

I reckon she was at least a c-cup. Here's Halo showing cleavage and possible camel toe (unconfirmed, I've been known to see camel toe where there is none).
