Recommend me an ISP

I Wouldn't want to be hanging on three months paying for a shit internet connection, would you? Not that Be is shit but you see my point.

Na, 3 months is the minimum contract, there isn't a 3 month notice period - I don't think any ISP would ever hold a customer to that for a DSL service.

christ I'm with Pipex, they have become so shit it's unbelievable, I keep on getting poor line instability, constantly getting disconnected when playing counterstrike and my torrents speeds have drastically took a nose dive

... come april I'm offsky - and it looks like probably Be will be getting my business

fuck off pipex you bunch of shitesters!

Cough

How long is the Be contract?

For our Be unlimited and Be pro products, there is no contractual period, we simply ask for 3 months notice in writing to cancel your contract without incurring any additional cancellation charges.
If you choose Be Value, your initial contract period is 1 year. After the first year, we simply ask for 1 months notice in writing to cancel your contract without incurring any additional cancellation charges.

And I put this in my earlier reply, which you ignored

Ah, but realistically you wouldn't be.

ADSL connections don't tend to totally fall apart after running x months without a problem. IMO your connection would either be fucked up on commissioning, or come up fine. Same with exchange capacity problems, they don't tend to appear overnight.

So, if problems come up when the line is being installed then you don't accept the line and ultimately you can cancel the service without incurring penalties (I got confirmation of this from Be when my own line was being installed by them, as I'd already had one 2+ install from Bulldog collapse in a pile of ordure and I didn't want to be trapped again)

Be will also down/upgrade your package based on what speeds you actually end up with. In my case I wanted confirmation that if my line couldn't go reliably over 8M then I could downgrade my order from Unlimited to Value without penalty (I could!)

Ha! Unless you're with Pipex. It's amazing how a once excellent ISP can totally fuck it all up.

My apologies Radar... let me check my contract, maybe the early ones were different, 'cos I'm sure that's not what I'm on?

Same happened to Freedom2Surf after they were bought by Pipex.. were amazing for years, the turned shit in a month or so.

Yeah, we used Pipex for donkey's years, at work and home, then all of a sudden? Utterly unacceptable levels of service and appalling customer support. Thank god we don't use them anymore.

Well I was hooked up around Sept 07 and the same notice/contract periods as now were in effect back then.

Of course, there's always the possibility that the Be FAQ on their site is no longer accurate in which case the apologies will be flowing in the opposite direction ;)

The only time I've had a "total drop dead/oh shit can't fix it" situation was when I stupidly accepted a Bulldog offer to move across to ADSL2+ on their LLUed network. I went from a rock solid 6Mb connection to a flaky as fuck 11Mb at a really low SNR. Within the week, it had progressed from being merely flaky to not being able to hold sync for approx 75% of the day  Good old Bullie excelled themselves as was to be expected by doing absolutely fuck all apart from losing any records of me reporting faults (Quelle surprise)

That was when I told Bullshit to go fuck themselves, and RTDed the whole mess back to BT. They reinstalled ADSL2 again and technically it was as solid as a rock (this was ignoring BT's infernal traffic shaping which actually forced me to try Be once my inital BT 12 month contract had expired)

Now I'm on Be and have been for 6 months now. Speeds still as good as the day I signed up, I haven't spoken to the bulgarians since then so don't know about the CS side of things.

Telcos, can't live with em so firebomb their call centres :D

Shit, I'm getting 1mb/sec on a torrent. 1gb in 15 minutes.

Fuck me.

Great innit!

I get 1.6Mb tho rarely get that on torrents, the ms download site does gives me that. Not sure why for the torrents, usually 400K/s though I am using a laptop on wireless.
