Recommend me an American tv series

Of the ones you'd not seen yet OU....Big Love, Weeds, Dexter and Californication are all great (just bumping this thread to get more ideas).

I've still not seen Oz, so gotta do that and Sons of Anarchy if you're all still sold (I quite like d'ling a whole series though, so looks like that'll have to wait a bit)!

i think i saw the first ten minutes of weeds and i hated it - didn't really give it enough of a chance though.
i'm not downloading owt til i clear some more space - watching mad men s2 right now though.
i love it all but especially the hot women i'm afraid.

Everyone I've recommended 30 Rock gets hooked on Alec Baldwin. While the GG are mostly the industry patting itself in the back, all three he won as best comedy lead actor are well deserved - If there's a scene with him, you know it will be good.

Other series currently broadcasting, I've decided to give Mad Men a go, and the stuff is excellent. Very well written, with a terrific ensemble cast. Everything seems believable, although it seems everyone goes through a packet of smokes every day. Other than that, Friday Night Lights (for middle america sports drama) and House (which I cannot recommend much these days - I watch it more out of habit and sassy one-liners than being any good).

Been thinking about adding something new with no more than 40 episodes broadcasted, might be Californication.

Leverage is a non-demanding comedy-drama. It's the American version of The Hustle, and I'm a sucker for vigilante style stuff.

And the 5 characters are very likeable!
