Recommend me a vacuum cleaner

*bump*

i am so sick of my bloody hoover upright that i am about to order a dyson animal upright.

The general opinion at work was go for a dyson and on here they seem pretty popular. Anyone got a dyson animal, if so would you recommend it?

become a member of the miele fan club ;)

We had a Dyson Animal, and to be honest it wasn't much cop. Think it's still upstairs and only does the wooden bedroom floor now. The Kirby is used downstairs and is brilliant.

Am I the only person who has mentioned a Kirby on this thread? :hmm:

The Rolls Royce of vacuum cleaners. :)

Maybe in performance, but not in looks :D

I was giving my sister a demonstration of my Miele at the weekend :D

I bet that was thrilling for her :D

I'm going to go and cry over my Vax now. Tell it how much I despise it. How I gave it my best years and what did I get it return? My life could have been so different without it, I could have been HAPPY. I can't stand it any longer, the acrimony, the long silences, the steely resentment. WHAT IS LIFE WITHOUT LOVE??

She had great fun trying it out and was well impressed. She has a George (Henry's brother)

Meanwhile, I gave her my Vax to see if her husband could fit it. If he can, they can have it to use over the allotments. I don't want the wanky, heavy piece of shite anyway

I should have dumped the Dyson on him as well :D

How did you end up with a Dyson, a Vax and a Miele? How many bloody hoovers does one person need?!

b/f has a Dyson and a Henry

I have a Vax and a Miele

My Vax didn't pick anything up, so if I wanted to vacuum my place, I had to drag Henry down 4 flights of stairs to my place which I was getting sick of.

Dyson doesn't work. Henry works.

Oooh do you live in the same block but different flat as your boyfriend? I've always thought that would be quite cool.

when i was a cleaner of posh peoples' houses the firm gave us Dysons but soon realised they kept falling apart - so they then gave us Henrys. it is since that time i worshipped at the dustbag of Henry.

i've never tried a Meile thingy though...

Minne can give you a demonstration next time you're in London. It might be worth making a special trip.

And then she'll craftily let you "try it out". I'm onto you and your urban slave cleaning scam

Just look at the construction and solidity of a Kirby, match that with effortless sucking power that'll pull your carpet up and you're onto a winner.

A friend of our has had hers for about 25 years without a single hitch. Try that with a Dyson, Miele or Henry. :)

How much are they? Are they really only sold by door to door salesmen?

About £1500 new by the salespeople.

Plenty of good ones around for about £100. We got ours from seeing it on ebay and going along to a Kirby certified shop in Leyton, all serviced and good as new. :)

Found this:

Claireybrations is the first to come back and answer the question directly, suggesting “Miele Cat and Dog-brilliant!” – she’s not the only one who thinks so either. Kingfix relays a happy tale “So far it has been great on hard floors and carpets. My mum is still using her Miele after 25 years, which is what persuaded me”. Kylesmyloveheart adds “definitely a MIELE or a SEBO” while the impossibly named dizzyTHETARTANARMYdixies responds “Miele cat and dog [is] FANTASTIC”.

Recently switched from a Kirby to a Miele--much lighter and practical, especially as time marches on. I have to say the power from both is pretty equal and in a dog family this is an important feature...

what's wrong sparkles?

Well, I was pretty sure I'd be getting a Dyson but now I'm quite tempted by a Miele but I wanted bag free so that might be the clincher. And the fact that I've got a 10% discount code and a free attachment set on the Dyson.

Plus I don't have to pay up front, it can go on my account. :o

OK, so the Meile may be lighter and as powerful and have the longevity. :hmm:

Sparklefish, don't know what you're going to do to be honest.
