Recommend me a red wine

True - maybe they're not the best for beginners then.

(I'm on a Malbec tip atm - out of interest, have you tried the French version?)

Personally I haven't, all the argentinian Malbecs I've had have been great. I'm on a Chilean Pinot Noir tip myself.

I don't think I have had a red wine with no oak or tannins. Cab Sav is fairly moderate on those I think - but I am probably wrong. I usually drink full on Rioja, so it seems very light in comparison.

Sounds like you want a beaujolais. Particularly beaujolais nuveau. Plenty of those around -- stuff from the Georges Duboeuf vinyard is generally pretty good though.

^^^ is a good call. Pinot Noir is often a good shout if you prefer something a bit lighter, but I find a lot of the cheaper New World Pinots to be a bit meh. Wine Rack/Vicky Wine/Threshers do a French Pinot Noir/Gamay/Cabernet Franc Blend (iirc 10% Gamay 5% Cabernet Franc) which has a bit more to it than the equivalent New Wrold Pinot Noir.

I'm getting sick of drinking rose(Gallo white zinfandel& grenache). I want a red wine thats fruity but with no tannins or oak .Is there such a drink?

Try a young Rioja.

But, if you want to play safe, any 'new world', 'Ribena' wine will probably suit your taste. A Chilean Cabernet Sav' (abbreviated cos can't spell it) for example. Very good value at Lidl here. Probably a similar option in the UK.

Oddbins do a Winemakers Choice which is a Chilean Mlabec about £8.99 which is a rich fruity red with a strong cherry flavour. Mrs Magpie once drank 3 bottles and then went down the pub...I was asleep upstairs by then ! But its' a great wine.

The Oddbins in London on the Highway before Tower Hill is great.

Maybe i shouldn't share my secret with you, but Tesco does a wonderful light bodied, fruity ( ripe plum and raspberry ) and very easy to drink and extremely cheap ( under £5 ) Spanish wine called Gran Tesoro made from Garnacha grapes. Give it a go. I discovered it last year and i can't get enough of it.

One place not to go for wine advice: Urban (lol).

Tempranillo and Beaujolais generally have very low tannins, and are light bodied enough that if they have been oaked (rare for beaujolais) you probably won't be as offended from the taste than say, a Cab Sav which are mostly heavy in tannins.

Honestly though, if you like something like this then you're set: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beaujolais_nouveau.

It is the most basic/plain beaujolais I've ever tasted. There are some relatively complex (read: good tasting) low tannin Pinot Noirs that I absolutely adore, but I'm not sure you'd have them over there.

My current favourite Pinots are from the US and Canada - Norman Hardie does an amazing one and while french oaked it's not a major tasting note. It's only produced in a few hundred cases and I doubt it's exported over there.
