Recommend me a nice 'mummy' car please....

the jazz does funky things like this

jazz6.JPG

which would be handy depending on where you were going

its also got a big boot, which was the one key thing my Dad wanted, despite never actually carrying too much in it anymore he can't lose the need to have a car for the whole family and holidays :D

They seem to be a bit pricey though. :(

But I shall do some more investigating as they do look pretty.

Are they quite nippy? There's that many islands in this town that I need to be able to move off sharpish iyswim.
very nippy, very cheap for services etc, Dads was about 6.5k for a 3 year old one in fucking spanking good nick :) they go down in price if you want an older one

he didn't cos he didn't like the colours :D he paid more cos he wanted a red one :D

Oooh, it does look the business. A big boot is a must.

Of course, I'd not be fussy about the colour............. :o :D

I'm definitely going to go and have a look at one and see what I could trade mine in for.

do it, they are more expensive to buy but cheaper to insure, run and service :)

I'll certainly consider it. :)

J has his eye on a Porsche though, not sure he's getting the economising bit of why I want to change my car... :hmm: :D

I like the Honda, I really do. It's a quiet, unassuming little vehicle that's a perfect town car for a small family, and can do a good impersonation of a van with the seats down. It's miserly as hell with petrol, insurance is cheap, and so far in the 3 years my wife has owned hers, it's been incredibly reliable and cheap to service. It's also surprisingly spacious - I've driven myself and 3 teammates plus ice hockey gear 90 miles to a match, and it was great, 4 large guys with room to spare, and the boot managing the ridiculously large amount of gear no problem. It's a really, really good car.

But nippy? No. even with the bigger of the two engines, nippy it's not. It's ok for round town, but on motorways you have to book overtaking manouvres about a week in advance.

even so, I'd still recommend them without hesitation.

Hmmm, I do rarely go on the motorway and I mainly do round town driving (although we do have lots of dual carriageways) but I like having a bit of power 'just in case' iyswim.

Still sounds a cracker though. I'm definitely going to consider it. :)

Look! Pink!

Moomoo's got 3 kids and a dog, surely a Golf would be pretty small for all of them plus all the junk that goes with kids?

I can fit four adults and a child in mine, ok the child may not be the most comfortable person in the world, but it would easily fit moomoo's tribe. The dog is a JRT, they're not exactly massive.

I have also fitted two adults and a teen and a mountain bike comfortably in the car more than once :p

I'm not surprised. Think of his street cred for goodness sake!! :D (((moomoo's boy)))

Is the youngest ok with it?? :hmm:

No. He wants a blue one as well cos boys have blue things.

Anyway, to be quite honest, the colour will be secondary. It'll be all about the price I'm afraid. :(

And whether it's big enough to make me feel safe. I'm not keen on very small cars and as I've never heard of the Jazz, I've no concept of how big it is. Could someone perhaps say if it is bigger than a Corolla for example?

Show them this and tell them girls have blue things too :D Obviously it's no good for the family though ;)

No idea what size the jazz is coz I don't think I've ever seen/noticed one, sorry.

sarah for the win :)

my parents have driven honda accords since the late 80s, they are still driving the one they bought new in 1997 even though one of the back doors has to be opened from the outside now :) apart from that, i think they've had one breakdown in ridiculously heavy rain and never needed anything replaced apart from brakepads (which my dad does himself).

the dealership lent them a jazz recently and my mum though it was nippy enough as did my speed demon dad.

The Jazz is similar in size to a golf, for it's external dimensions.

Internally, it's much bigger. The high roof gives it a spacious cabin, as I said big enough for 6 foot passengers to be comfy in. The foldflat seats means you can turn it into a small van, ideal for tip runs or transporting larger items. I got a double bed in, though it took a fair bit of pissing about.

For the standard mixed family load, it's great. Fit roof bars for the bikes, and you'll easily take 4 people, bikes, dogs, and luggage.

Hired a Jazz in New Zealand (or whatever it's local Jap name was) Slept in the back of it, enough guts to cope with the windy roads and stuck to them OK. Should be fine for the UK.

:hmm: You are not old enough to need a boring mummy car! Just because you have kids doesn't mean you have to be boring! Get something that you will enjoy driving and will have fun with.

(Try a Golf GTD, diesel economy, but good performance.)

Golf diesel more exciting than a Honda Jazz? It's a bit like comparing chalk and, well, chalk.

I agree that your not old enough to need a mummy car  though i do understand the sense behind it ( bloody kids) i have a VW bora for match days, chauffeuring the kids around in and most shopping trips, but then i have my baby which is my car for me, to enjoy and feel anything but mumsy in :D

The Jazz is great.

I would recommend going down the Honda, Toyota or Nissan route.

Jap cars are, on the whole cheaper to run, insure, mend and service and they also tend to be well screwed together and reliable.

If you want something with more poke than the Jazz, the newer Honda Civics are also great cars.

Parts for Japper can be more expensive in the UK, but then you might need less of them.

Beware Nissan-not the quality product they used to be. Reliability and customer satisfaction went down after Renault bought into them (although Ghosn is a saint in Japan for arresting the nose-dive of Nissan.)

Actually, my Murano is half an example of this:

The mechanics and everything that matters has been just peachy so far - however;

The interior is really disturbingly rattly for a supposed "quality" car and it is starting to bug the tits off me.

Our Subaru on the other hand is miles better......

One strong point of Jappers used to be that they knew how to properly bolt in those acres and acres of plastic...

Clarkson is a twit, but his comment that "Subarus are probably the most reliable cars made – they make Hondas look like South American dictatorships" was pretty much spot on. There's a reason farmers love them.
