Recommend me a grown-up clothes shop

I have, I got a skirt for work there the other day.

Although it's too big, but that's not their fault.

As I said before, some of their Limited Collection stuff is really nice. And not a pleated waist in sight.

I really like Boden - some classic stuff and some slightly quirky - but they're mail order so you have to be prepared to send them back if necessary. I never have, though despite being fussy about things fitting well.

I have a black 'smart' jacket from there with white topstitching and the most beautiful lining - I always wear it for smart work do's and interviews and it feels good just putting it on.
yeah I like boden too and they have a pretty good sale section on their website ;)

The one in Manchester got shut down due to 'infestation' :D

Slight hi-jack of Skim's thread...

I could do with some smart black or charcoal grey trousers for work (I'm probably so out of touch that charcoal grey hasnt been in for seasons  ), do M&S have a cut of trousers that make us gals with a bit of the saddle bag about us look good?

Or can anyone recommend where such trousers are sold?

They probably dont exist...trying to disguise saddle bags under anything other than jeans is a nightmare.

I find M & S cut for very curvy/hourglass figures, which I'm not - a 14, which I need for my very non-hourglass waist :D billows over my hips & thighs.

Kew can be good for smart/casual (vom) stuff. Also Fenn Wright and Manson suits are lovely (you can get them in John Lewis)

Congrats on the new job skim :)

I'm an hourglass, but I have the opposite problem - Iif I buy them to fit over my hips, the waist is too big. I bought two pairs of cords in M&S and there is a gap of 3 - 4" at the back of the waist. I have to wear a belt with them and pull the waist right in, which ruins the look of them.

Exactly my problem

me too and being 'petite' doesnt help either because you've got the old inside leg to contend with as well

They have got some lovely stuff in M&S.

Just wanted to say there are TWO Boden shops, one near Hangar Lane the other (newly opened) in Walton on Thames.

When you feel like doing a bit of investment purchasing, Toast does good trousers & shirts (more on the blousy side than straight work shirts). Beautiful, quality fabrics & cut well - just on the quirky side of classic & grown-up, but definitely not floaty or Monsoon-y.

Its online, but they do have a concession in Selfridges so you could go & try stuff on & then buy it online later.

I've only ever bought their stuff in the sales (& on ebay), but if I could justify the cash I'd pay full whack for some their stuff (& my natural habitat is H&M, Primark & Oxfam so that's saying something).

I find 'short' to be too short, and 'medium' to be too long half the time.
