Recommend me a doctor

You don't even have to report to reception now on arrival. You "report" in on a standalone computer in the patients' waiting area.

We're right posh you know

I used to go to that one many years ago.

I've been with the one in Hardel Rise, Tulse Hill for many years now. Very nice they are too. I could have moved back to the Raleigh Gardens one when we moved, but I asked to stay at the Tulse Hill one. Its' probably a bit far for the Orang-utan to travel though.

Raleigh Gardens is good once you've managed to get an appointment.
AVOID THE STREATHAM HIGH PRACTICE. Rude, arrogant, obnoxious doctor. Just awful, and they are so hell bent on not spending money, you haveto be half dead before you'll get a referral. This place forced me to self medicate off the internet. On the plus side - i've never felt better. They are totally redundant. It just irritates me that i pay them out of my taxes.

If you can get on the books, the Exchange Surgery in Streatham are very good.
The EXCHANGE is shit. Dr failed to diagnose a serious health issue - ended up doing it myself on google and going back to inform her what she needed to do. Another time i was seen by a useless locum who spent my appt telling me how she could not help me because she was a locum. F****** useless. I moved to STREATHAM HIGH PRACTICE in same building and they are even worse. Rude, obnoxious, racist GP. They shoUT you down if you try to correct them with medical facts. The racist attitude is what really got to me though. You cannot even complain to the PCT, because the GPs are technically not NHS staff. Anyhow, AVOID BOTH THESE PLACES.

You still haven't explained what was racist about them? :hmm:

You could try Water Lane, but...
the team of receptionists (and the lack of timekeeping for appointments) there can be v irritating at times. Appointments can often be got on the day and sometimes a bit in advance, as long as you phone absolutely first thing. Home visit if you can't get there - forget it. IMHO officious atttude about stopping all medication (even if dangerous to stop taking it) until you've seen a doctor for a review. Whimsical changes to repeat prescriptions and the rules about how often you can hand one in before you have to see a GP. Noisy and overcrowded waiting area.

To be fair, at least the doctors do seem to read each other's notes (important in a multi-handed practice), and most of them seem okay - it's just the reception and management side of it that gets right up my nose.

Sorry Greebo but I have only just left BWL surgery and it was terrible imho.
One of the GPs was lovely but one of them was really fucking patronising cunt.
The reception staff were some of the most ambivalent (at the best) and rude (at the worst) that I have come across. And I give reception staff a lot of slack due to what they have to put up with and am uber polite.
The only way I could get an appointment within a month was to be standing outside at 8.20am (calling often produced no results). We use to live about three doors down and it was still not really ideal.
Really inflexible over repeat prescriptions too.

I am going back to the medical centre on Vassal Road after moving.
Use to go there before and they were great.
Hope they have not changed too much.

Oops like Minni, just saw how old this was :o

No need to explain, Kitty. Even if I had the proofs of address which that practice demands, I wouldn't register there - the receptionists have had me in tears several times and I bloody hate their cramped and noisy waiting room!

I only go there because it's where VP's registered (to do his prescriptions and to accompany him there & back when he's got an appointment). Probably be one of the few people they see regularly who isn't on their books.

I've heard a few people recommend Gracefield Gardens. What about Brixton Hill Group Practice?

If you live in the right area to sign up with the Stockwell Group practice on Stockwell Rd, go there! Brilliant service and excellent GPs. I have had 2 others (including Raleigh Gardens) since moving from their patch and they just don't measure up. I still have family who go to Stockwell Group Practice and they say they are still as good.

I still go there in spite of the Dr Church having retired and gone to live in Moscow,I'm training her replacement Dr MacKay at the moment he's not up to speed yet but is coming along fine.

aah, Dr Rosalind Church - so kind and re-assuring and attentive. And Dr May, and Dr Savage.
She was a witness in a case where I had my arm badly damaged by plod.I started seeing her when she first came to the surgery on the estate, she'd done a few years in Africa before that and had some novel ideas about treatment she maybe wasn't the best GP in the world but you couldn't fault her stand on getting the best for her patients.Savage also was a good Doc.(I also liked the way she didn't give a shit about time limits and was always running behind with appts).
