Recommend a graphic novel?

Watchmen, again. Sorry. :)

It has many fans.

I've only read the first but the others are high on my Xmas list.

It gets deeply weird after the first few. I didn't like it beyond the first two.

Get Top 10 and the 49ers (don't get the third non Moore top 10 book though, it's a total shit sandwich)

Yeah, they're great, especially the 49ers. Have you read Smax? It's is odd but I found it enjoyable.

Fables is sort of interesting, though I've gone off them since discovering they are a Zionist parable.

Yeah I didn't expect to like smax because of all the hobbit like shit that I hate, but yes it was pretty good fun.

Where did you read that about Fables?

And why has no one recommended Hellblazer? I know the film was shit but the novels were good at the beginning.

In a few places, there's a quote from the creator on Wiki.

More recently Willingham has explicitly tied his series to a pro-Israeli political stance, stating "Politically, I'm just rabidly pro-Israel and so that, as a metaphor, was intended from the beginning." He adds, however, "as much as politics are going to intrude in Fables, that's as far as I think I'm willing to go. It's impossible to keep them out entirely. We're all political creatures whether we cop to it or not. [...] Yeah, it's not going to be a political tract. It never will be, but at the same time, it's not going to shy away from the fact that there are characters who have real moral and ethical centers, and we're not going to apologize for it." [3]

The X-Men God Loves, Man Kills is a great story. It was originally meant to be set in the comic run but was banned as the first few pages feature two children being murdered by religious fundamentalists. It was released as a graphic novel in 1982 and is readable as a standalone story even if you know absolutely nothing about X-Men. It really is worth reading even if you hate X-Men.

Sounds great! ~Just ordered it off ebay~

The Preacher - absolute greatness.

Hellblazer - (in particular, issue 27 is one of me favs).

Sandman.

The Punisher - Garth Ennis is pretty fun.

The Invisibles.

Preacher - OK but well overrated

Invisibles - Student wank.

Preacher is hilarious! twisted and violent and obscene.
c'mon...ennis' recreation of jesus christ is brill.
i love those novels.

Invisibles has it's moments.
maybe it's stuck in the 90s (like the way hellblazer is in the 80s).

forgot to mention the early editions of Swamp Thing.
they were fun.

The Filth, by Grant Morrison is great fun.

I await Atomic Suplex's criticism :p

Haven't read it, I didn't like the look of it.

Zenith was the only long term thing I have read that he really seemed to think out. Animal man could have been quite awesome and I think the invisibles could have been good, but in the end there was nothing to it. Reminds me a bit of the 'lost' plot.

*thinks about his bookshelf*

err love hina?

Well maybe not Love Hina which is adult fantasy pretending to be young teen fantasy (oh no my clothes fell off again).

I still think Maison Ikkoku is the greatest comic book of all time. Wips Preachers sorry western arse, and it's about nothing more than a widow housekeeper in a love triangle. 15 volumes, spanning ten years.

ken akamatsu just hits the right level of plot folating in a sea of very nicly done fanservice it's a romance comedy witch is both funny and sweet i think it serves it target market perfectly

as for the 15 volumes spanning 10 years... takahashi just doesn't know how to stop writing

echoing of 'Illiminatus!'

That seems to be a large chunk of Grant Morrison's career. Don't bother with Invisibles - wanky script and appalling art after Steve Yeowell left. The Authority is visually stunning, but the second book lagged, IMO. Is it worth buying the third, anyone?

I'd recommend Watchmen (obviously), Sin City (works far better as a comic strip than a movie), Preacher, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (just to get the taste of the film out of your mouth), and Alan Moore's Top Ten.

Oh, and From Hell. Actually, if you buy anything, buy From Hell and Watchmen.
