Recomend me a virus checker

My new laptop has McAfee installed on it, but I would need to agree to run it, as it's asked me several times. I understand that McAfee is shit, so can someone recommend a good virus checker as an alternative please?

For reference, I'm running Firefox on Windows 10.

If you are running Windows 10 then it has an installed anti-virus program called Windows Defender. Defender is fast and unobtrusive, it does not slow the machine at all, I have been using it since I moved to Win10 and I used to be a Norton AV user.

    Fuck McAfee.

Even more, fuck Kaspersky. Kaspersky is currently stopping me from loading the football alliance thread because its a phishing scam apparently. Kaspersky also stopped me loading a Barclays internet banking page earlier because it couldn't verify it. I get Kaspersky free because (for my shame) I have a Barclays account. Kaspersky is full of shit.

    Norton. Hahahahahahahahahahahaha.

It was just p26 (the most recent page) and, lo and behold, it's not doing it now. I suspect all those FB links. Actually I just suspect it's Kaspersky being shit.

StoneRoad RIP Greebo being kinder heckling from the back!

I use AVG (the free version) and run ad-block - they suit me and my laptop.
But then I'm a suspicious person, something of a little goody-two-shoes and stay off the funny-peculiar sites.
In any case, I don't bank / shop on-line, nor do I respond to spam / phishing emails.

Hmm, I didn't know about that Windows Defender, but lo and behold it's been running without me doing anything. Cheers all.

I've now uninstalled the Mcafee trial, because I'm sure it was wrecking my speed. So far, it seems to be paying dividends and, judging by what you've told me, Windows Defender will do what's needed.

I've been using Comodo for a while now, not had any problems with it. I use adblock plus, ghostery, ccleaner, and do the odd malwarebytes check too.
