I have about 8 or 9 lots of 4-5 bar snippets which are all completely different and all are still refusing to turn into a proper tune.

Have you got the hang of the new Automation lanes yet Crispy? Very, very useful to understand when you are an utter n00b (like me) as it is likely you will want to fade certain lanes in and out, or pan or twiddle various nobs/effects during the note etc...
