Reason 4

Surely it should be if you bought R3 before June 07... ?

So I could buy R3 then get a free upgrade straight away?!

<e2a: perhaps an e-mail to millenium music is the way forward...>

But 4 is out already - why would you buy 3?

I am confused!

Because 3 is cheaper,

Is it?

Ah!

That would explain your question....

and, apparently, you can upgrade for free?!

I would very much doubt their free upgrade offer applies post-release of the new version......worth asking though I suppose!

can someone recomend a midi keyboard type thing to go with this. I've just "got" a copy, but you need something to play alongside it dont ya?

It helps massively, but there's nothing stopping you editing tracks manually.

helping massivly will be good,as I've not got a clue how to work it in the first place. (downloaded the demo, only played a little bit,but it just seems so big and strong. :D )

I've set a date with gergl. We've got one night to learn the software and create the bangingest techno known to man.

cool, when is this mysterious date? (is it a friday and or saturday night? I could do with some help)

a week today. gotta get me a midi interface before then - I have a korg X5D (pretty basic keyboard), but no way of plugging it into my mac.

yeah,I've got a big fat ass casio thing, with no way of connecting it to the pc. (I bought it by mistake, cos I had a dream  )

I bought an M-Audio Oxygen8 v2 - it has knobs and everything.

M-Audio keyboards start fairly cheap I think....mine was about 70 quid, but there are 3 or 4 in the range before that.

Damn salesmen.

I am cracking on really well with learning how the thing works - the DVD I got really, really helped. I love the automation lines you can run in the sub-lanes for each instrument - tres cool.

The main problem I have at the moment is I keep critiquing myself out of making a full track.
I know the best thing I can do right now is put everything I have learned together in to a 3 minute song, master it, export it and stick it in the archives as a starting point.

Thing is; each time I start to put something together, I get so far and think "nah that's shit" and start something else.

Well of course it is going to be shit - I am a novice Reason user and an utter n00b musician - WTF do I expect?

Dammit!

Oh well - I have lots of snippets I can go back to. It doesn't help that I am refusing to use any loops and thus am slowly and painfully constructing everything myself from scratch through ham-fisted keyboard playing.

Thank fuck for quantize.

Oh and to make matters worse, I have had a little play with Logic Express and am only a few days away from having the new Logic Studio 8 suite downloaded, which will give me even more ways to procrastinate away from actually making some music.

Hmm - If you guys are going to be learning as well, I reckon we n00bs should commit to posting/exchanging our first tracks by a certain date.....that might help and would give us something concrete to work towards?

:)

I have an Oxyv2 as well & it's v lovely. Probem for me with it is that Reason doesn't (or didn't, I haven't checked) have proper controller maps for that keyb.

My other problem is that since I started trying to learn the geetar I've done feck all on the computer, so I've kind of forgotten all the tips & tricks I'd learned on cubase & reason.

Multi-task? Moi?

You've got until next Friday to come up with the goods. :)

Isn't there usually some kind of threat accompanying that sort of demand:

"We know where you live" or "We have your wife - mwahahaha" etc?

has anyone got a working 'ilegal' version yet?

Um yeah - about 2 weeks ago!

Mind you, 'tis the Mac one - don't know (or care :p ) about the smelly Windows version....

Been soding around with the demo, won't be buying it though, I think it still sounds a little weak. Maybe I need to look at Thor more but I wouldn't want to rely on one synth as the workhorse. I think the best thing they could do is remove that shitty Subtractor, it's the most weakest synth in the world, ever.... seriously, what is it good for?

There's a tutorial on dogs on acid from a bloke who got some sick bass sounds out of the subtractor.

People diss reason for various reasons (badomtish) but i've tried other packages and reason has always been the one i've got my best work from. Especially now as my stuff is mostly sample based but even if you're making synth sounds, as long as you know what you're doing it's more than capable of making decent sounds. I believe it got a bad rap cause of it's ease of use which paved the way for alot of shitty tracks being produced cause people thought "Oh, i've made a alright track with not much effort" as opposed to "Oh, i've made a shit track with lots of effort". It really is down to what you do with what you have rather what you have can do for you.

Word. The best stuff I ever made was with a mate, FastTracker2, a mac classic, a ropy korg and a minidisc recorder. Zero hi technology, loads of restrictions and workaraounds, but the music came through.

Yeah Venetian Snares uses trackers and he comes out with some pretty good stuff :)

Oops.

I have now decided that Logic Pro 8 is way more interesting and complicated, so I am wasting my time on that now.

:o

I have to say, the sounds you produce are far better in quality and detail than I managed in Reason..........I can actually make guitar lines that sound like a guitar being played.

Still - most of it is way, way above my head - at least Reason was more n00b friendly.

Oh well, I get to procrastinate away from actually making any music even more now.

well could you send me a link cos i want to get it :D

I don't have the link anymore but A quick search of Torrents sites should turn it up.
If you really can't get it PM me. ;)

Btw I bought Reason3 from Millenium Music and with it came the upgrade to R4 on CD :) I e-mailed Propellerheads prior to my buying, and they reckoned this grace period will end in December.

I've had a bit pf a play on osx, like the new interface. The arpeg bit is nice to play with. Thor is ok, I have yet to tweak too many knobs on it.

Gergl and me succesfully made 16 bars of rather euro sounding techno last weekend. We'll try and refine it to make it less euro and also create variations on those 16 bars to make a 'tune'

Going well. It's absurdly easy to use :)
