Reading Festival

Heard that urban myth about the poo sprayer and the Reading dance tent in the pub over the weekend. Always though it was Glastonbury, and a myth, but was lucky enough to be sitting next to a poo sucker operative who swore that it really happened.

What is the general consensus? True shit or bull shit.

It was Glastobnury, not Reading. (is there a dance tent at Reading?)
I don't think it's a myth (I could be worng though). They dis use the pumps to pump away excess mud, not certain about the 'bloke pressing the wrong button' but I do remember that the dance tent was closed for quite a while after it was supposed to have happened.

Yeah - there is a dance tent of sort at the Carling festivals. Not a very good one imo.

dance tent used to swap with the concrete jungle tent on alternative nights, now there's only one night thats at all dancey. I worked on the bar at the back of the dance tent a couple of years ago, and it was a top spot. especially for the closers, when no one wanted a drink at all, so we just partied behind the bar.

the glasto dance in shit story is absolutely true, 97 or 98, the same year the other stage nearly sank.

i have to stand up for the reading dance tent, its good fun! granted its only there 2 out of 3 nights, but the lineups, especialy headliners have bin great for as long as i remember. not as crouded, as many angry youth see dance music as too hapy for them i guess. ah well, i dont mind, its my tent this year, so im gonna enforce steward raving!

I'm going to reading! Any chnace any of the people who are workingg the bar can let me use their showers? or failing that free beer? ;)

I just been looking at the line up for reading and I noticed that Blackalicious are playing as they are a fairly unheard of hiphop grouip playing on the dance stage is it fair to assume that i'm gonna be the only person watching them play?

Anohter thing i was wondering if anyone could help me with is that I'm not really that into the rock music scene I'm just going to the festival for the experience so could anyone tell me some of the songs that the bands are gonna play, you like the classic tracks that everyone is going to be going mad to, so that I can check tham out before the festival?

cheers

From working Glastonbury i reckon it'd be quite difficult but not impossible to get into the beer village compound, especially at night.

Re checking out music, try kazaa searching by band name and downloading the top 10 most popular, that should sort you out.

:)

Im there, sorting my ticket out as I type :D

Got a few days holiday and thought 'how often do you get to see The Pixies'

:D

WooHoo! Got my WBC stuff through today. I think I'm going to get the bus to London on Thurday so I can catch the Beer Bus into the festival - is anyone else catching that?

Shall we swop numbers for a mini U75 meet? I've never been to Reading so would quite like someone to hold my hand :)

I think we could have a "who on urban has worked for WBC?" thread. Probably loads. I haven't done any this year - a bloody relief after 11 years of beer tenting. Good fun though and nice people.

btw, what rocks are you selling?

Just common or garden, although I do have a couple of crystalls and a bit of the berlin wall. Actually I think I have a bit of volcanic glass somewhere...

Edit: Yes I do, but what I really need are some drugs. The WBC are great people, with their beer tokens, food vouchers and such, but there doesn't seem to be much in the way of drug provision.

11 years boohoo? Blimey. I'm getting the co-ordinator job handed over to me at the weekend, so Reading will be my last easy barmaid job, from then on it's more gruelling hours and headaches I imagine. But I'm sure there'll be loads of lafs aswel. You going to Reading?

at least there'll be some room for the alphabet aerobics :)

hope they're good.. would love to see them have some fun on stage.

Blimey it's not long now!

Got loads to still sort out, including fixing my poor 3rd hand tent that suffered badly in The Great Storm 2005. Hopefully a couple of bean poles, some gaffa tape and a whole lot of love will get it through one more festival.

So looking at this thread it's:

Kropotkin
Adrenalinmonkey
Revolt
and TheLostProphet

coming to the festival. I know we are not many, but I fancy meeting up for a beer, you guys up for it?

:)

The people I use to work for were good at providing drugs at the WBC. In fact they would stay awake the whole three/four days on acid/speed at the event and would be exceptionally ratty by the final day.

I've never wanted to move from barmaid rank at the WBC though my brother aspires for promotion -he can usually be spotted kissing some managerial arse. I'm not doing this year but I might go for something next year - always fun! Hope you have a good time!!!

Yay!! Looks like I'm going too, haven't been able to say for certain as have had a shitty time trying to get tickets (sold out on payday hours before my money went in, got scammed on ebay etc) but now it's for definite, even though getting the boat up on thursday means I will be unable to visit my boyfriend and collect my Bag Of Skunk. :(

Cool! Glad to hear you got hold of the tickets, if not the weed.

Had a look at the bars WBC are covering and it looks like Dreamtime, Mandela, Bread & Roses, Rainbow Warrior and the Campsite Bar plus a few hospitality areas. Never been to Reading so don't know what any are like but like the sound of a campsite bar - sort of sounds like a local :D

Gis a PM if you fancy a beer :)

Well I've just heard a heartening announcement on R1 say that anyone going to Reading should forget wellies..

... and bring wadders instead!

Oh God!
Here we go again
*braces self*

It was like that last year :p

Leeds will be a bit damp too... although, the weather forecast for reading isn't looking that bad but I don't know what it's been like for the last few days... if it's been like London... bugger!

was the mud worse than Glastonbury?

Mmm... in places... as bad (because the drainage is awful in places) but overall, it was much more comfortable. Pair of wellies = sorted I should think

Well I'm packed and as ready as one can be when they're about to embark on a world of mud. I always get that niggling feeling I've forgotten some thing.....

Right! Will check me PMs tomorrow but otherwise gis a text at the fest!

:)

I was nearby a bit later!

I can authoritatively state that mr steev is right, and that the Dance Tent at Glasto 1998 was closed, and for that very reason -- it's not an urban myth.

The bloke on the shitwaggon needed to press suck and instead he pressed blow. Shame he'd been scooping out some toilets earlier on his round!! :D

I was brave enough to approch and peek in over a barrier from the edge of that tent, about two or three hours after the shit incident had happened (I'd been trying to catch an early set there, around 11 or 12 in the morning, by Banco Da Gaia). There's been some cleaning up started by the time I saw, but it still looked pretty disgusting

Didn't reopen til around early evening I think, and the story spread like wildfire round the site. And inevitably got exaggerated -- KNEE DEEP IN POO!!! etc. :p
