Elesewhere, I'm embarrassed for the guy trying to make any kind of artistic comparisions between The Wire and 6 Feet Under. If you don't 'get it' then that fine but, really . . .

Oh fuck off London_Calling, you bore me.

I get The Wire, I think it's utterly fantastic, I just spent the last weekend watching Season 1 pretty much back to back. I cannot wait to feed the new addiction. My point was merely that I enjoyed Six Feet Under just as much and would recommend it to those that haven't seen it.

To be honest, one of the main reasons I never got into The Wire until recently is the wanky, cirlce-jerk fanboyism displayed so brilliantly on this thread. For similar reasons I've never watched Star Wars or listened to the Beatles much. Get over it!

Got it. It's those people on the Internet's fault you never got into the Wire until recently.

Best get back to Band of Brothers then. The "best" HBO series evah !

You're honestly the biggest prick I've come across in all of my 6 years on this site, and that's saying something.

I said I deliberatly avoided The Wire because of fanboys like you (and my best mate, Jodal). This is a shame as it's such a good programme, no need for it to be tarnished.

Do you only like The Wire? Why does my like for Band of Brothers and Six Feet Under bother you? They're both fantastic series, perfectly credible and from the same studio as your beloved series.

By the way, I think it is a tremendous shame that anyone not watch Star Wars or listen to the Beatles because they are deemed too popular.

Fwiw I do recall EoD back in the day and I was as impressed as everyone else. But that was then and I was impressed by a whole lot less - it would though still be quite interesting to see how it stands up.

Okay fine we get it. You really like the Wire. And yes we all agree it's a great piece of work. But The US TV critic for the Guardian was espousing it's greatness 2 years ago before Charlie boy started doing the same You've jumped the bandwagon too late and all your intellectual musings won't cover that.

SFE is a very good programme. It's not as good as The Wire IMO but I re-watched some of it the other day and it holds its own against it.

Who is "we" ? Why would I be impressed with what "The US TV critic for the Guardian" said, and I'm not def not in a race with him/her either. No idea who "Charlie boy" is, and I'm covering what ?

It's a thread about The Wire

It's not the popularity, it's the obsession that puts me off.

Basically I think his point is that your blathering on is very boring. We know The Wire is great, we all agree, you don't need to place your zealous importance on it nor imply that you have to be somehow elite in order to get it.

You don't like things per se when in your opinion and definition people are "obessed" with them. Okay. It's one way to go I suppose.

But you don't think you're maybe allowing a few bored people killing a little time at work a little too much influence over your vieing habits ?

Not really. It's a pretty common state of affairs. People often develop a distaste for something when people go on about it.

I think you mean to say "People often develop a distaste for something when London_Calling goes on about it."

That too :D

Actually, when my mates bang on about something, it turns me off it. But the same applies for them about my interests so it all works out nicely.

This lack of trust is distressing. :(

In threads dedicated to that particular subject?

That's what you're doing right, complaining about people posting too much about The Wire in threads about The Wire?

Um... yes. The epsiode where David gets kidnapped is still the finest piece of television ever.

No argument that it's an excellent episode and really powerful and harrowing, but overall quality of Six Feet Under, suffered, with meandering plots, that were often repetitious. And Nate's wife disappearance was just a Deus Ex to get rid of an annoying plot line, and reintroduce Brenda, which was all bizarrely tied up by the brother in law's confession/suicide which was something out of a bad soap opera.

No! In general, I didn't specify a thread or anything. I just meant the general view of a thing being the second coming.
