Re-makes that are better than the originals

There are a lot of great things about the original - the claustrophobic set, the political overtones, 'keep watching the skies' etc etc - it's a superior B movie - one of the best sci fis of the 50s and you just dismiss it as duff and lacking effects FFS. It shows a lot of ignorance.

The re-make has better characters, better scares and substantially better production values.

GS(v)

does not make it a better film . Also did Goblin do the soundtrack for the re-make , if not then there is no-way the re-make can be considered better !

You're a real prick. I can see all that just don't think its well made, I love science fiction (one of my big faves is Forbidden Planet) but the original Thing doesn't cut it for me. Shame an arrogant tosser like you can't accept difference.

It's disheartening that so many people seem to favour effects and production values over ideas - this is how we get shit like Transformers and War Of The Worlds

Little Shop of Horrors.

Though credit to the original director and producer for literally making the film in 3 days after they were offered use of the studio and set due to the previous production having finished early.

I was going to mention that one, but was the original a musical? I thought the stage musical came from the film, and then another film was made of the musical, iyswim.

no i rewatch ring on occasion and it gets better each time... it's all about kinda knowing what is going to happen the futile struggle against the curse the deep deep bitterness

plus sadako is lovable in a very strange way

Sadako is my friends mums name (not relevant but hey).

I think its often scarier when you know what's gonna happen as a part of you is going "no no no don't, oh I know you will but just this time don't....!" Its more torturous IYKWIM

exactly... that's why the moment the tv goes on you just know what going to happen.... the whole bit with her comming out of the well is torturous in it's slow unstopableness

I didn't find The Ring scary - after about half an hour we were taking the piss and ended up talking over it and not watchin the end

I actually found the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake quite scary, as a teenage slash flick.

But I think the scariness was enhanced by the man sitting behind me who heavy breathed throughout, getting heavier when the gory bits came.

And then he turned to me at the end and said 'wasn't enough blood, was there?'

I got the FUCK out of there as quick as I could.

god, every single example so far is wrong.

Correct answers include:

Alien
Maltese Falcon
His Girl Friday

Watched it with some friends on DVD and afterwards turned on the 'Special Feature' to just watch the killer video on it's own.

Just as it finished (and the room was quiet), one of my mates rang the other mate on his mobile.

Funny at the time.

The original fly movie was.....original. The ending of the original is far scarier than any kind of OTT gunk Cronenburg came up with. They're so totally different movies perhaps it's not even worth comparing them.
