Re-introduce national service, join a European Army?

But will NATO actually exist if the septics abandon it? (itself far from certain).
Is NATO not what the talked of Euro-Army is expected to replace by those suggesting it be formed?
I don't actually think either will happen (USA abandoning NATO or a Euro army being formed, though I think the latter more likely), but both are being put forward.

NATO is only what the contributing states make it - it's a command and control apparatus that the member states allocate parts of their national forces to, you'd simply withdraw X forces from NATO command, and allocate them to something else instead - that something else could be a national command (so, in the spring of 2022, the UK 'gave' the Polish Army a British Tank unit to plug a hole caused by the Poles gifting tanks to the Ukrainians) - or an international/multinational command like JEF or the EU Battle group concept.

The UK citizenship of Shamima Begum was removed, and she did not actually engage in fighting. The Home Secretary can remove citizenship of those whose actions he disapproves of.

Erm, she didn't join a foreign military which is what we're discussing here, so no idea why you think that is relevant, and that subject has been done to death elsewhere on here. I think you might be another one of those people on here that seem to not actually read the threads you contribute to.

The OP asked about conscription, fine for this thread.

The post I quoted was covering a topic under discussion in a serious thread, which I helpfully posted a link to, to avoid duplication, dullard.
Good to know you the arbiter of what is fine for this thread. Surely that would be the OP, the mods or urban as a whole?

Your detailing the taking down of NATO

I am not the arbiter of anything, I posted a helpful link to the other thread, that is all, nothing more, nothing less.

For someone that claims they don't want to engage with me, you're not doing a very good job of it.

I am fully in favor of involuntary national service. Armed service would be my personal selection (as it was, in fact) but there are many forms of service that can and should be made mandatory for those of appropriate age and physical health

You're at risk of losing your UK citizenship if you go off and fight for another country though.

Unless of course the other country is Israel, and you're not so much fighting as slaughtering defenceless civilians.
No you're not that's complete rubbish. If you're a UK citizen and have no others then it cannot be stripped from you regardless. If you have others then (as per Begum's case) it can be taken from you IF you join a proscribed terrorist organisation. If you fight aganst the UK then of course you can be tried for treason (assuming the UK wins). There are plenty of British citizens fighting for Ukraine. I know someone whose son (a former paratrooper) did a 12 month stint fighting alongside the Kurds and has been fighting alongside the Ukrainians for at least two now.
Tbf though to quote his father it's better he's off fighting the Russians rather than fighting the coppers here in the UK, he didn't adapt well to civilian life.

Only if it doesn't make them stateless, Begum had Banglasdeshi citizenship, granted she didn't want it but she still had it. I believe (though am not sure) that the Bangladeshi Govt has stripped since stripped her of her Bangladeshi citizenship but that doesn't restore the UK one since it was done after.

Men only or anyone fit (etc) enough?

Looks like it would be a close run thing!

But us and the French ( plus the Chinese who learned from us) have gone for minimum credible deterrent. I.e we can burn down Moscow if that was what was required.

Could probably ramp up production and bring in different delivery systems quickly if we needed to. Probably, the French might be a bit better at that than us in the short and mid term.

What if they were physically capable but not mentally capable? Even then 'mentally capable' could be interpreted in so many ways.

If it was a straight up physical test and physical war, I would fancy doing quite well but in reality - I'd probably break down in tears just at the thought of it actually happening.
