Raving/clubbing - what made you finally stop going?

I know people over 50 who still go clubbing. One of them looks like a walnut though, it has to be said.

having children stopped me

i'd like to go but you just can't with three little ones to look after the next morning

I used to feel like an old git when I was in my mid 20s and young free and single going to most raves.

There'd be no point at all of me going now.

Still enjoy taking some substances though :hmm:

Me and my gf used to neck some speed, then go out clubbing.

What made us give it up was after we'd been in the club about half an hour and the speed started kicking in, we couldn't wait to get back home for sex, and we would often ring for a taxi pretty much straight away.

It was costing £50 for half an hour.:D

:D

it's quite interesting how some of the late 30s people seemed to grow out of it about the same time as me and my friends who are late 20s

could it be not the fact we grew out of it, just the fact that the 'scene' (for want of a less cringy word) lost it's way

i remember when breakcore was kickiing off around 2004 was like a new lease of life for me, but that was pretty short lived

i wonder if there was something original if we would get into that. i do think going out and getting trashed is more for people under 25, but it was never just about going out and getting trashed. a couple of my friends in newcastle are under 25 and they are bored of getting trashed

I stopped when I hit my late 20s. I saw too many of my mates getting fucked up. Let's see. One died. One went to rehab and came out all weird. One went mad and stuck a shotgun to my face. Another became a smack head. My dealer who I became friends with use to pimp his wife. And on top I was developing a a bad habit.

The scene. The drugs was all too off-putting.

Glad I did it though.

i dunno - I still find a lot of unfamiliar new music (and a lot of old new music too) that gets me very excited and makes me want to dance.

oh no doubt there is not a shortage of decent music to dance to coming out, i also think DJs have gotten better last few years with access to serato and CD decks and ableton etc and less of the obsession with genres, but the culture is different to what it was, it's more lots of different things that don't feel like part of the same thing (that could just be my interpretation of course....

Fucking hell, I dont think it was the scene that caused all that surely? Maybe you just had an unfortunate set of friends?

I'm the same really, plus the fact that I take longer to recover now and having to go to work whilst on a comedown and/or utterly knackered just isn't fun.

I also don't like the atmosphere at a lot of nights now, too many people doing ket for my liking...

uggghhh... i just wouldnt go to any club if i thought that's be the vibe. no wonder you have a crap time.

Nah that was all the bad shit.
There were loadsa great memories. Like the day my mate got me tickets to Tribal Gathering (he felt sorry for me cos me and the missus of 5 years had finished).

Turned out to be a great experience. Dancing to Carl Cox. Laurent Garnier and Orbital and then E-ing with a random girl from Hackney - talking about Charles Buskowski and Fante til the early hours. Think that was '96 or '97.

I think clubbing changed for me in '99. I started dating someone and got out of that scene and into hip hop/rnb. It was a different vibe and totally shit tbh.

what made you finally stop going?
nose rubbing finger pointing
tourting CUNTS. come very common ClubUk 94ish I did coke for a bit but never felt the need to fuck someone night up Bad-egg

Do you ever miss it?
Yep erver NYE miss day of Meagdog

Do think about going to Jam as Colin Dale plays there and read from here U75 other big name. but don't know if it a clicky place :hmm:

Having a non-clubbing wife and hanging out with friends who are more interested in sitting around having a meal and a drink did it for me. All my mates who go to club nights don't seem to have changed in the past few years and I dont like hanging out with them anymore listing to the same type of music that we did when we were 18.

But if someone offers me a pill Ill neck it. Doesn't matter if I'm in a club or not.

The music finally put me off, I really hated techno and I could only ever do class A,s very occasionally anyway.

I have always had a fantasy of going to a really good disco with loads of Motown and some funky house and taking some MDMA I have never actually been chemically enhanced to music I really love:) In fact the drugs just made me able to tolerate the shit I was dancing to! Pointless! What was I thinking??

It's a shame we didn't know each other better then, I hated techno as well! I much preferred to sit in the chill out rooms chatting and smoking.

Used to go to some house nights though as well, liked them better. Did you ever go to Karanga?
