Dare I state the obvious? That these murders are about poverty, poor education, poor parenting and the massive amounts of quick cash available if you're part of the drugs trade.

I think the problem is bigger than that. I don't think any country could do this unilaterally - it would have to be done on a continental scale or you would just get loads of additional problems by "drug tourists" (both the Netherlands and Switzerland have seen this when they have moved in this direction). Would have to be the whole of Europe now, I think, especially with the "borderless" nature of the EU area.
someones just gotta come up with a feasible way of phasing it in...the whole drug laws re scheduled drugs needs to be reassessed and a total revolution in thinking is needed to avoid it being a 'policed' prohibition on tobacco and alcohol.
people are slowly finding it more un-comfortable to smoke..the drink driving laws slow many people down already with the drinking...
we all need a drug revolution...its seems to be a long time coming...
